Today, when visiting Ha Giang, tourists not only explore famous destinations such as Dong Van, Meo Vac, Lung Cu Flagpole, Quan Ba Twin Mountains, Ma Pi Leng Peak - Nho Que River, Vuong Family Mansion, or the Happiness Road… but also visit Vi Xuyen Martyrs' Cemetery, which has become a destination for spiritual tourism and historical battlefield tourism in Ha Giang.

The Vi Xuyen Martyrs' Cemetery is located next to National Highway 2, in Hamlet 18, Vi Xuyen town, about 2 km from the center of Vi Xuyen district and 18 km south of Ha Giang city. The cemetery is nestled against the Tay Con Linh mountain range, facing the historic Lo River. Construction began in 1990 and was completed in 1991, shortly after the end of the war to defend the northern border of the country.

Bearing cultural and historical value, the Vi Xuyen Martyrs' Cemetery is a shining symbol of patriotism and revolutionary heroism of the nation. With over 1,760 martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Vi Xuyen battle buried here, we cannot help but feel deeply moved by the great and noble sacrifice of the heroic martyrs who fought on this battlefield.

This place also serves as a significant site for educating future generations about the revolutionary traditions, recounting the heroic and glorious battles fought by the Vietnamese People's Army, where soldiers sacrificed their lives and blood to defend every inch of the nation's border.

The tombstones at Vi Xuyen Martyrs' Cemetery are solemnly erected, arranged in rows and layers like brothers and comrades standing shoulder to shoulder. The spirit and noble sacrifice of these heroes remain and will always be deeply etched in the minds of every Vietnamese person.

Every year, on the occasion of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27th), the Vietnam People's Army Founding Day (December 22nd), and other major national holidays, convoys of vehicles from the South to the North, from Hanoi and the northern provinces, regularly carry thousands of visitors here, including relatives, friends, and comrades of the deceased, living witnesses of history, to revisit the old battlefield and light incense for their fallen comrades.

Visitors who come here on these occasions hear touching stories about camaraderie, brotherhood, the bond between soldiers and civilians, and the everyday lives of the soldiers who bravely fought and sacrificed themselves in the arduous and fierce battles at this strategic hilltop. This place also teaches visitors more about the nation's history, about love for their homeland, and about honoring and showing gratitude to the heroes who fell to protect the peace of the country.

Out of respect and pride for the heroes who fell in the border war to defend the Fatherland in general, and the battle at the Vi Xuyen front in Ha Giang in particular, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang conducted a survey and compiled a dossier for the historical and spiritual tourism route "Visiting the Old Battlefields". In 2017, the People's Committee of Ha Giang province issued a Decision recognizing the local tourism route "Visiting the Old Battlefields".

Accordingly, the tourist route connects the following points: Vi Xuyen Martyrs' Cemetery, the memorial monument to the heroic martyrs of Lao Chai commune, Thanh Thuy International Border Gate, the memorial monument to the heroic martyrs of Thanh Thuy commune, Bat Cave, Lang Lo Cave, the 468 Memorial Monument, and Thanh Son community cultural village. This is a spiritual tourism route focusing on the origins of the region, with transportation mainly by car, motorbike, or on foot, and a total length of approximately 85km. The terrain is mainly hilly and mountainous, with a cool climate and majestic scenery. Local specialties include Shan Tuyet tea and cardamom.
