The difference, reports show, is in the average spending per tourist in Greece, which has risen to 622 euros compared to 565 euros in the same period last year. Analysts also note that the average spending per tourist is partly due to the number of visitors from the lower-spending Balkan countries, which have fallen this year.

In June alone, tourist arrivals fell by 1.7% to 4.6 million, but revenues increased by 8.8%. Among key markets, Germany led the way with spending of around 1.4 billion euros, followed by the UK with 1.1 billion euros. However, tourism from the US has been much higher in Greece this year than in previous years, with an estimated 700,000 US tourists visiting Greece in the first half of the year, up 20%, spending around 704 million euros, up 29.4%. Next, Australians remain a potentially important tourism market, with more than 300,000 expected to visit Greece in 2024.
Greece’s international profile is on the rise, according to a new report by INSETE. Greece is among the top 15 tourist destinations for visitors from the US, Canada and Australia, and is gaining ground in India, overtaking China for the first time.
With peak summer tourist numbers yet to be taken into account, tourism experts believe that 2025 will bring another record year for tourism, one of the most important and lucrative sectors for Greece's economy .
