As a mountainous province with its own characteristics, there are difficulties but also many advantages, especially in the agricultural sector, up to now Lai Chau province has had 215 products meeting 3-star and 4-star OCOP standards, including many products with strong local identity such as: Cordyceps, Shan Tuyet tea, dried macadamia nuts, Seng Cu brown rice, Seng Cu rice, Binh Lu vermicelli, Ichiba melon. These are high-quality products, produced based on strict food safety and hygiene quality assurance processes.
However, up to now, Lai Chau 's OCOP standard products have not been able to promote their true value in the market, and are even very limited compared to other localities.
Promote products through digital platforms
Regarding this reason, Mr. Do Van Chien, director of an agricultural products trading enterprise in Lao Cai province, shared: “The difficulty of agricultural products in Lai Chau in particular and some Northwestern provinces in general is that they have not developed on a large scale, mainly small-scale production. There are some enterprises and cooperatives operating in agricultural production and business, and their products also meet very high OCOP standards and are of very high quality. But they are still only on a small scale, so they also face many difficulties in building brands and promoting products widely to the market, these are very big limitations”.
In recent years, the Department of Industry and Trade of Lai Chau province has made great efforts to implement activities to support organizations and individuals operating in the field of agricultural production and business, especially those who own agricultural products that meet OCOP standards, to apply digital transformation and digital technology to promote and introduce products, build brands, and thereby bring products to the market.
Coordinate with the Department of Science and Technology to bring the province's OCOP products to e-commerce platforms such as: Posttmart.vn (Vietnam Post), Voson.vn (Viettel Post)... Guide and support enterprises and cooperatives with typical products of the province to participate in "Lai Chau Online Store" to promote the consumption of agricultural products on major e-commerce platforms in Vietnam deployed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade also coordinated to organize digital skills training courses, livestream sales, photography, and digital branding for OCOP entities, business households, and cooperatives. Thanks to that, the capacity to access the digital market of units has gradually improved; connecting the traceability system, making product information transparent, and increasing consumer trust.
Lai Chau ethnic minority women conduct online sales
Information from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lai Chau province said: In the past time, the Provincial Farmers' Association coordinated with the Provincial Post Office to open training courses, training, propaganda, and promotion of the e-commerce platform Buudien.vn to members, farmers, agricultural production households, organizations, and enterprises, thereby registering more key agricultural products and OCOP products. The province's agricultural products were supported by the Provincial Community Activity Center to be displayed at the exhibition booth to introduce and support the consumption of OCOP products - provincial specialties.
This contributes to changing the way of managing, producing and consuming products from traditional to modern and smart, with high economic value for units, organizations and individuals in the area.
Lai Chau has strengths in medicinal products.
Mr. Dao Huy Cuong, owner of Huy Cuong Cordyceps facility, said: "We have built and maintained our own fanpage and website to introduce products; promote business on e-commerce platforms. It can be mentioned that on the TikTok platform - one of the main sales channels today, the facility has set up an online booth with more than 50 products, attracting over 15.3 thousand followers and receiving many positive reviews from customers, most of them reaching 5 stars. Thanks to applying a multi-channel sales strategy, the facility has achieved nearly 1,000 orders/month with an average revenue of 600 - 700 million VND/month, an increase of 50% compared to 2024; creating stable jobs for 50 workers".
Not only stopping at e-commerce platforms, Lai Chau province also strengthens digital communication about OCOP products through social networks, websites, fanpages, videos, and real-life experience clips, contributing to spreading cultural values and product stories to a large number of consumers. This not only helps increase revenue but also spreads the image of Lai Chau as a land with rich products and strong identity.
