Equipping students with safe motorbike driving skills: Reducing the risk of traffic accidents

Provinces and cities are implementing training courses on safe motorbike driving skills for students according to Decree 151/2024/ND-CP, contributing to reducing the risk of traffic accidents.

Many provinces and cities train safe motorbike driving skills

Safe motorbike driving skills are guided by Decree 151/2024/ND-CP detailing a number of articles of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, especially in Article 5, which stipulates the content of training in safe motorbike driving skills for high school students and vocational training institutions, guided and implemented by the Traffic Police Department from January 1, 2025.

Currently, provinces and cities across the country are actively implementing training on safe motorbike driving skills in accordance with Decree 151/2024/ND-CP and guidance from the Traffic Police Department. After training, local police coordinate with high schools and vocational training institutions to implement training, equipping students with legal knowledge and vehicle control skills, contributing to reducing the risk of traffic accidents.

In Thanh Hoa province, on December 4, the Provincial Police organized the opening of a training course, instructing on safe motorbike driving skills for high school students and vocational and continuing education institutions. The training course was attended by nearly 400 officers and soldiers of the Traffic Police Department and police of communes and wards in Thanh Hoa province.

According to Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, during the training period, trainees were taught important contents on using theoretical lesson plans and training implementation methods; vehicle inspection skills before operating; driving posture and clothing; how to wear a helmet properly; identify and check helmet quality; practice driving skills in the driving test area. The contents were designed to increase practicality, helping trainees master the skills to effectively apply them in the working process.

Through the training course, participants are equipped with specialized skills in safe motorbike driving, while also consolidating their legal knowledge, pedagogical skills and teaching methods when conducting instruction at schools. Thereby, contributing to improving the effectiveness of propaganda and education on law and safe driving skills, gradually forming awareness of law compliance on traffic order and safety for students right from when they are still in school.

According to Da Nang City Police, this is a meaningful activity, demonstrating the determination of the City Police in improving the effectiveness of propaganda, legal education and ensuring traffic order and safety for students in the area.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Minh Thang, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of Da Nang City Police, said: In recent years, along with the socio-economic development, the demand for students in Da Nang City to participate in traffic by motorbike and electric bicycle has increased. However, the situation of students violating traffic rules, lacking skills in controlling vehicles, and handling situations on the road is still happening, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents. The training program aims to equip the Traffic Police and Commune-level Police with appropriate skills, methods and propaganda content; grasp the psychology of students; and at the same time, deploy unified steps to guide students in practicing safe motorbike driving at schools.

Parents are excited that students will be equipped with safe motorbike driving skills.

To effectively implement the regulations on training content on safe motorbike driving skills for high school students and vocational training institutions according to Article 5, Decree 151 guided by the Traffic Police Department, the Police of provinces and cities have organized training courses for police of communes and wards.

After the training, the police of communes and wards will coordinate with high schools and vocational training facilities to deploy training, equipping students with legal knowledge and vehicle control skills, contributing to reducing the risk of traffic accidents for students.

Ms. Ha Thi Hop, residing in Hac Thanh Ward, Thanh Hoa Province, shared: “I was very excited to hear that Hac Thanh Ward Police will coordinate with the school to equip high school students with safe motorbike driving skills. I have a child in grade 12, if he is equipped with safe motorbike driving skills, when he goes to school far away, the family will be very secure.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mien (76 years old), residing in Linh Toai commune, Thanh Hoa province, said: "The police coordinating with high schools to equip students with safe motorbike driving skills is a very meaningful thing, helping them have safe driving skills when participating in traffic, contributing to reducing the risk of traffic accidents."

Speaking with a reporter from Cong Thuong Newspaper, teacher Nguyen Xuan Tai, Vice Principal of To Hien Thanh High School, located in Hac Thanh Ward, Thanh Hoa Province, highly appreciated the program and said that the school will continue to closely coordinate with the ward police to equip students with safe motorbike driving skills.

According to statistics from Hanoi City Police, in November 2025, the authorities discovered and handled 3,130 cases of students violating traffic safety laws. The main violations were not wearing helmets when riding motorbikes, carrying more people than the prescribed number, driving underage, using cell phones while driving, running red lights, etc.

To help students strictly comply with the Road Traffic Law, Hanoi Police have stepped up propaganda. Nearly 100 live propaganda sessions on traffic safety have been organized in the past time, attracting more than 80,000 students, parents, officials and teachers to participate.

According to Hanoi City Police, after the training, local police coordinated with high schools and vocational training facilities to implement training, equipping students with legal knowledge and vehicle control skills, contributing to reducing the risk of traffic accidents.

Speaking with Cong Thuong Newspaper, a representative of the Traffic Police Department of Thanh Hoa Province said: The course will provide students with legal knowledge on traffic safety and order; conditions for driving each type of vehicle; safe driving skills such as speed, traffic light signals, rules for avoiding, overtaking, changing direction, etc. In addition to the theory, students will also practice driving motorbikes in a simulation course for the A-class driver's license test.
