Lieutenant Colonel Pham Thanh Son, Deputy Head of Lien Chieu Ward Police, said that the ward has many schools located on key roads with high traffic volume, such as Au Co Primary School, Nguyen Ba Phat Secondary School, Nguyen Luong Bang Secondary School, etc.
These areas frequently experience traffic congestion during peak hours. Since the implementation of the "Safe School Gate" model, traffic conditions have improved significantly. Previously, during dismissal times, parents would crowd together, parking their vehicles and spilling onto the road, causing traffic jams. Since the police, youth union members, and students have collaborated with the school to manage traffic flow and remind people of regulations, the chaos has noticeably decreased, and dropping off and picking up children has become safer.
To achieve these results, the ward police coordinated with the school's management board, parents, and students to strictly comply with the Road Traffic Law, assigning police and military forces, youth union members, neighborhood committees, and other departments and organizations to participate in duties at school locations during peak hours.
Authorities are also strictly dealing with street vending and illegal use of sidewalks in school areas and key thoroughfares.
In Ba Na commune, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quang Minh, Head of the commune's police force, said that the model was implemented from the former Hoa Vang district police force, with each school having a coordinated team consisting of youth union members, teachers, militia forces, and local police officers.
The members are divided into shifts to remind and guide parents to park their vehicles in designated areas, and to assist students in crossing the road in an orderly manner, ensuring safety and security. In addition, campaigns promoting the proper use of helmets are also regularly conducted.
Ms. Le Thi Hong Tuyet, Secretary of the Youth Union of Ba Na Commune, said: "With a spirit of initiative and volunteerism, Youth Union members and young people always accompany the commune police in directing traffic and guiding parents in dropping off and picking up students."
The "For a Peaceful School Gate" model will be maintained regularly, thereby promoting the role and responsibility of young people in building a safe, civilized, and friendly school environment.
In mountainous communes such as Tien Phuoc and Son Cam Ha, the model has also been replicated, contributing to raising awareness among parents, teachers, and students in complying with the Road Traffic Law.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Ngoc Tuyen, Head of the Son Cam Ha Commune Police, the commune currently has 11 schools at all levels, from preschool and primary to secondary school. Through this model, the commune police not only ensure traffic order and safety but also contribute to forming habits and awareness of law compliance among students from their time in school.
As can be seen, the "Safe School Gate" model has been and continues to be effective, becoming a highlight in ensuring school traffic safety.
