The "Pha Din Pass" eco -tourism area, built in 2016, has now become an ideal destination for tourists to enjoy the colorful scenery of the Northwest mountains and forests.

Traveling to Pha Din Pass - visitors can enjoy exploring one of the 'four great mountain passes'.

Pha Din Pass is located on the vital National Highway 6 connecting Son La and Dien Bien provinces, in Tuan Giao district (Dien Bien province), an area with many tourist attractions such as Ha Cho cave, Pu Nhung revolutionary base; Tham Khuong cave (Chieng Dong commune), a national archaeological site...

Pha Din Pass is known as the most treacherous of the "four great mountain passes" in Northwest Vietnam, which include O Quy Ho, Ma Pi Leng, Khau Pha, and Pha Din. Pha Din is known to both domestic and international travelers for its majestic, pristine beauty and the challenging nature of its 32km long pass, with its highest point reaching over 1,600m above sea level.

However, in the past, tourists often regretted standing on the isolated mountaintop, gazing at the majestic, vast landscape with winding roads shrouded in fluffy clouds below, lacking any space for visitors to stop and admire the view.

Until the Pha Din Pass expansion project is completed, Pha Din Pass is undergoing a transformation day by day. Especially for those who love adventurous travel, Pha Din Pass has become an unmissable destination on their journey to explore the beauty of the Northwest region.

Since 2016, the Pha Din Pass eco-tourism area, located on Pha Din Pass, has become an ideal stop for tourists exploring the beauty of one of the "four great passes," where heaven and earth meet.

Recognizing the valuable tourism potential of Pha Din Pass, in 2016, the Pha Din Cooperative in Tuan Giao district, Dien Bien province, was established based on the principle of "cooperation for mutual development" among five local families.

Members of the Pha Din Cooperative jointly contributed money to lease 50 hectares of land on Pha Din Pass for 50 years to develop it into the Pha Din Pass Tourist Area. After more than a year of dedicated investment, the Pha Din Pass tourist area has now yielded positive results, attracting hundreds of visitors daily.

Mr. Dinh Van Tuan – manager of Pha Din Pass Tourist Area, one of the five families who took the initiative to call on members to contribute capital to establish the cooperative – shared that mobilizing families to contribute capital to do business together was not difficult, because everyone saw the potential from the large number of tourists stopping at Pha Din Pass every day to admire the scenery, but there were no specific rest stops.

Therefore, developing the Pha Din Pass tourist area as a stopover for tourists on the pass known as one of the "four great mountain passes" in Northwest Vietnam is very appropriate.

Mr. Tuan added that the tourist area was formed based on the idea of creating a rest stop where tourists can comfortably enjoy themselves, admire the scenery, and also serve as a place for interaction between people from Dien Bien and Son La provinces. In the future, the tourist area will be invested in and expanded to include more recreational and relaxation spaces.

From the early days of experimenting with planting buckwheat flowers and creating windmill hills... through countless trials, failures, and successes, Pha Din Pass has now become an ideal destination for tourists to enjoy a valley full of colorful flowers, a space for relaxation, recreation, photography, dining, and camping... on hills with landscapes harmoniously designed with nature and rich cultural elements.

Pha Din Pass eco-tourism area currently welcomes 150-200 visitors per day, and 500-700 visitors on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Pha Đin Pass eco-tourism area is not only a satisfying stop for tourists but also creates jobs for local people. Currently, the cooperative employs about 50 regular workers, with an average income of about 5-7 million VND per person per month.

Considering the income level of local workers in the two communes of Phong Lai and Muong E (Thuan Chau district, Son La province), this is a fairly good salary.

Besides tourism activities, the Pha Din Tourism Cooperative also has stalls showcasing and selling local specialty agricultural products, including many typical fruits of the Northwest mountainous region such as persimmons, pomelos, plums, peaches, guavas, etc.

This is an important prerequisite for the cooperative to develop tourism associated with agriculture, attracting tourists to visit and experience activities related to agriculture and farming work, helping tourists to relax, improve their physical fitness, and get closer to nature.
