(BLC) - Thanks to the correct guidance of the Party committees and authorities at all levels, and the active participation of the people of all ethnic groups in the area, Than Uyên has achieved many outstanding accomplishments in various fields. Especially tourism, which has been developing strongly with many attractive tourist destinations and unique ethnic cultures, attracting an increasing number of tourists to the locality.
When mentioning Than Uyên today, locals and tourists alike remember not only the revolutionary historical site of Bản Lướt; the vast and beautiful Mường Than plain, considered the third most beautiful in the Northwest region according to the saying "First Thanh, second Lò, third Than, fourth Tấc"; but also many attractive eco-tourism and resort destinations; community tourism; and adventure sports tourism that captivate the hearts of visitors.
When talking about ecotourism and relaxation, two famous destinations cannot be overlooked: Than Uyên Pine Hill and Lovehill in Than Uyên town. Currently, the pine hill is popular with young people because of its photo spots that resemble "European landscapes," with beautiful pine trees, modernly designed accommodations, green spaces, and expansive lawns. In addition, the communal stilt houses are also ideal "views" for visitors to pose for photos and capture lovely moments. With an area of several hectares, the pine hill is also a suitable location for families, groups, and organizations to have outdoor meals combined with relaxation in thatched huts.
At Lovehill, visitors are immersed in a romantic, fairytale-like atmosphere. The two-story red houses stand out amidst the rice fields and gardens of flowers and greenery, offering luxurious amenities for a relaxing stay. It's wonderful to wake up in the morning to the sunrise, relax your mind in the cool air, and breathe in the fragrance of rice, grass, and flowers. In addition, there's a love bridge, a stairway to heaven, and a communal stilt house decorated in a classic style combined with the unique culture of various ethnic groups, perfect for taking memorable photos.
Exploiting the potential and advantages of the two hydroelectric reservoirs, Huoi Quang and Ban Chat, over the past three years, following the district's direction, the communes of Muong Kim, Ta Gia, and Pha Mu have focused on promoting tourism around the reservoirs. They have encouraged local people to invest in boats and create scenic landscapes around the reservoirs to attract tourists. Currently, Tham Phe village (Muong Kim commune) and Ta Gia Bay (Ta Gia commune) are developing tourism services around the reservoirs, including cave visits combined with food and beverage services and cultural exchanges with the Khmu and Thai ethnic groups on the reservoirs. Most notably, Pa Khom Bay (Pha Mu commune) stands out, attracting tourists with its adventurous water sports activities in addition to food and accommodation services.
Recognizing tourism as a crucial economic sector contributing to socio-economic development in the locality, generating significant income for residents, and transforming the rural landscape, Than Uyên district has focused on implementing a comprehensive set of solutions to leverage the local resources. These include attracting and inviting businesses to invest in tourism within the district; and creating favorable conditions and encouraging households with the necessary resources to develop tourist attractions to serve visitors.
Than Uyên district has 12 communes and towns, home to more than 10 ethnic groups, most notably the Thai, Mong, Dao, and Khmu people, who have preserved many beautiful traditional cultural features. The district considers these cultural features as a highlight and driving force for tourism development. Therefore, in recent years, the district has focused on implementing Resolution No. 04-NQ/TU dated February 17, 2021, of the Lai Chau Provincial Party Committee on preserving and promoting the beautiful traditional cultural identity of ethnic groups in conjunction with tourism development in the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030. This includes integrating various funding sources, investing in infrastructure and cultural institutions, improving the transportation system, and supporting village performing arts groups to maintain their activities. The district also encourages people in the villages to participate in community tourism.
Along with organizing festivals, the district invested in a pedestrian street in Than Uyên town to allow local performing arts groups, traditional music clubs, folk song clubs, and dance troupes to exchange cultural and artistic ideas to serve the people and tourists. This also facilitates the operation of accommodation establishments and encourages households to engage in diverse businesses to meet the shopping needs of tourists.
It is known that, with the attention and guidance of the district, Ta Mung commune currently maintains the operation of the Nam Patt market, associated with the preservation of the culture of the Mong ethnic people. At each market day at the beginning and middle of the month, people and tourists can enjoy unique cultural performances: playing the Mong flute and leaf flute; umbrella dancing; and learn about the culture through traditional costumes and characteristic agricultural products (rice cakes, cardamom, honey, wild vegetables, etc.).
With the right policies, foresight, and innovative approaches from the Party committees and authorities of Than Uyên district, the local people's mindset about tourism has been dramatically changed. This has enabled the people to leverage their internal resources and effectively exploit existing potential, transforming the locality into an "attractive, safe, and friendly" tourist destination in the province. As a result, in 2023, the district welcomed nearly 220,000 domestic and international tourists.
