In 2025, tourism will be a prominent highlight in the country's socio-economic landscape; thanks to the tremendous efforts of the entire industry, from leadership and management to timely shifts in restructuring the tourist market, product development orientation, effective promotion and advertising, and an open visa policy.

Marking new milestones

2025 marked a significant growth milestone for Vietnam's tourism industry, welcoming over 21.5 million international visitors for the first time, with total tourism revenue estimated at over 1 trillion VND. With tourism revenue increasing by 19% compared to the same period in 2024, Vietnam's tourism sector has fully recovered, not only in terms of visitor numbers but also in quality and economic efficiency. As a result, the tourism industry has been recognized as a "catalyst" for growth, spreading to trade, transportation, accommodation, cuisine, culture, and creative industries.

The milestone of 20 million international visitors holds special significance for Vietnam's tourism industry.

In 2025, most key tourism development localities recorded strong growth in total revenue from tourists, such as Ho Chi Minh City, which recorded an estimated total revenue of 260,000 billion VND, an increase of 36.1%; tourism revenue in Hanoi increased by 21.5%, estimated at 134.46 trillion VND; An Giang increased by 92%, estimated at 67.94 trillion VND; Khanh Hoa increased by 18.4%, estimated at over 62.58 trillion VND... In addition, other localities recording high tourism revenue in 2025 include Quang Ninh, Lam Dong, Ninh Binh, Da Nang, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Tri...

In 2025, the Government issued important resolutions to improve visa policies, creating a foundation for Vietnam's tourism industry to increase its competitiveness and attract international tourists in the coming years. Currently, Vietnam unilaterally grants visa exemptions to citizens of 24 countries and allows international tourists to stay longer, including important source markets for the tourism industry such as Japan, South Korea, Russia, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands, Switzerland, etc. This positions Vietnam as a friendly, open destination, capable of competing with other countries in the region that have applied flexible visa policies for many years.

Da Nang will welcome tourists arriving on flights from Uzbekistan in April 2025.

Based on this, a series of new or increased-frequency direct flights have been opened, helping many localities in Vietnam, from tourist cities to seaside resort destinations, to attract a large number of tourists from new potential markets, in addition to the number of tourists from traditional markets.

Assessing the results of exploiting the international tourist market in 2025, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh – Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration – stated: “The open visa policy is a breakthrough policy in attracting international tourists to Vietnam. Besides visa exemptions for key markets, Vietnam has implemented e-visas to all countries worldwide, as well as extending the length of stay for tourists and expanding the categories of international tourists eligible for visa exemption. This is a leverage policy to attract international tourists to Vietnam.”

An open visa policy combined with improved tourism infrastructure, ensuring security and safety for tourists, and increasing direct flights to many destinations in Vietnam... have created a very important catalyst for the tourism industry to achieve impressive results in 2025.

Upgrading Vietnam's tourism products and brands.

The widespread impact of the tourism industry is evident in the numerous activities and events taking place continuously, large-scale tourist groups, and bustling airports across the country. Many localities have implemented tourism stimulus programs in 2025 with the message "Vietnam - Travel to Love," organizing activities to attract tourists, introducing new tourism programs and packages with high-quality services to enhance tourist experiences; improving service quality; and ensuring security, safety, a clean and civilized environment for tourism activities.

Many outstanding tourism products were launched in 2025, including a series of tours celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification in Ho Chi Minh City; the "80 Unmissable Hanoi Experiences During the Historical Festival Season" product line in Hanoi celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd; the opening of many railway tourism routes such as the "Five Gates" train from Hanoi to Bac Ninh, the "Cultural Journey to the Martial Arts Land of Binh Dinh" train (Gia Lai); the high-quality "Red Phoenix Flower" tourist train (Hai Phong)...; new sightseeing routes on Bai Tu Long Bay (Quang Ninh); heritage tours at Con Son - Kiet Bac (Hai Phong); the "Discovery Journey" tour in Na Hang and the "Ancient War Zone - New Experience" tour in Tan Trao (Tuyen Quang); Tourist routes from the vast forests to the blue seas of provinces in the Central and Central Highlands regions such as Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Dak Lak…

Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh assessed that, in 2025, based on thorough research of each market and tourist segment, localities and businesses nationwide have developed new tourism products that meet the diverse needs of domestic and international tourists. These new products have created appeal, enhanced competitiveness, affirmed the brand of Vietnamese tourism, and attracted significant attention from tourists. When good products are combined with effective media coverage in the right target market, they create a positive impression of Vietnam's country, culture, and people, thereby motivating tourists from around the world to want to travel to Vietnam.

Looking ahead to 2026, Vietnam's tourism industry aims to welcome 25 million international tourists and serve 150 million domestic tourists. Total revenue from tourism is targeted to reach approximately 1,125 trillion VND.

In 2026, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, together with localities and businesses, will reassess the entire potential and strengths of some localities after the merger, and based on that, develop plans and tourism products in the new context.

In addition, the tourism industry will focus on research to establish the first-ever overseas Vietnamese tourism promotion office in 2026. This is expected to be a breakthrough to overcome existing limitations in market research and create a bridge to support tourism promotion and marketing in foreign markets.
