“Brother! Rest in peace, the nation remembers your name. My family and I are always proud of you. You will forever be our great brother, our filial son. I will fulfill your dreams and ideals in your place!” This was the message from Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Thuy Dien (Staff Department, Tay Ninh Provincial Police) to her brother who sacrificed his life in the line of duty. It was also a message of encouragement for her to bravely continue the path he left unfinished.

Born into a farming family, Diễn and her siblings spent their childhood amidst the hard work of their parents. Of the three siblings, Nguyễn Xuân Hào was the first to realize his dream of becoming a People's Public Security officer.

But his journey was cut short. At 4:50 PM on April 21, 2023, while carrying out a mission to apprehend drug traffickers on Provincial Road 824 (in Moi 2 hamlet, My Hanh Nam commune, Duc Hoa district (formerly)), he was killed when he was hit by the suspects' truck. The Ministry of Public Security decided to posthumously promote Comrade Nguyen Xuan Hao from Major to Lieutenant Colonel. In May 2023, the Prime Minister signed a Decision awarding the Certificate of National Recognition to martyr Nguyen Xuan Hao. In addition, he was posthumously awarded the Third Class Order of National Defense by the President.

The day Hào sacrificed his life was a devastating blow to Diễn's entire family. That loss is irreplaceable. Filled with grief, gratitude, and pride, Diễn decided to join the police force to fulfill her brother's unfinished dream. "It wasn't an easy journey; my only baggage was faith in the Party, the Fatherland, and in my brother – who chose this path with all his ideals," Diễn said.

Following the policy of the Ministry of Public Security regarding the recruitment of Ms. Dien into the People's Public Security Force, after a provisional recruitment process, on June 18, 2025, the Director of the Long An Provincial Police (now Tay Ninh Province) approved the official recruitment decision for Ms. Dien into the People's Public Security Force and promoted her to the rank of Senior Lieutenant.

Having previously worked in the state sector, Ms. Dien had a basic foundation in conduct and discipline. However, the police force environment presented a more rigorous training process. With the encouragement and dedicated support of her superiors and colleagues, along with her own continuous efforts, she overcame many difficulties.

Ms. Dien shared: “When I put on the police uniform, I not only felt a sense of honor and pride but also a clear sense of great responsibility. Entering the profession at a middle age, being a woman, working far from home, the roles of wife and mother demand even greater effort. But with the effort and learning from senior colleagues, I have managed to balance both roles, successfully fulfilling my professional duties and maintaining a happy family.”

Now, working every day in the green uniform of the People's Public Security Force, Ms. Dien always keeps in mind that she must live up to her brother's sacrifice, the expectations of the force, and the trust and love of the people.

With willpower, gratitude, and a sense of responsibility, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Dien is continuing to fulfill her brother's unfinished dream, contributing to building a better society through the silent sacrifices of those who came before her.
