According to TechRadar , Canon is said to be developing an upgraded version of its new mirrorless camera line called the EOS R7 Mark II, expected to launch in the third or fourth quarter of 2025. According to sources from Canon Rumors , a site specializing in providing reliable information in the photography industry, the new product will target a higher-end segment, in order to increase competitiveness with rivals such as the Fujifilm X-T5.
Although Canon has not officially announced any information, speculation surrounding the EOS R7 Mark II's specifications is attracting a lot of attention. One of the most notable upgrades is expected to be a new sensor with a resolution of around 40 MP, which is expected to compete directly with the Fujifilm X-T5's 40.2 MP sensor - which is highly regarded in the current APS-C sensor segment. The higher resolution not only improves image detail but could also pave the way for 8K video recording.
The Canon EOS R7 is currently a powerhouse with a 32.5MP sensor and 4K/60p, but the upcoming Mark II version could bump it up to 40MP, support 8K, and ditch the mechanical shutter

Video capabilities are also a highlight of interest to the tech world. The EOS R7 Mark II will likely support 4K recording at 120 frames per second - a feature that the first version lacked. These improvements show that Canon is working hard to develop a truly powerful hybrid camera that can serve both photography needs and professional video recording requirements.
In terms of design, Canon Rumors believes that the EOS R7 Mark II may have a larger body, with a control layout and ergonomic design similar to the high-end EOS R5 Mark II, providing a more comfortable user experience, especially for professional users.
Another notable point is the possibility that the EOS R7 Mark II will ditch the mechanical shutter entirely - if confirmed, it would be the first Canon mirrorless camera to do so. Switching to a fully electronic shutter could help increase burst speeds and reduce rolling shutter - similar to what Nikon has implemented on the Z8.
Although there is no official confirmation from Canon yet, with the rumored upgrades, the EOS R7 Mark II promises to be a formidable competitor in the high-end APS-C camera segment. The appearance of this camera model can put a lot of pressure on Fujifilm and other manufacturers next year.
