The 30-year-old arrived at Everton on a one-year loan from Manchester City in the summer transfer window. Initially, manager David Moyes said Grealish would have to get used to his new team on the bench. But the midfielder quickly proved his worth.
After just two Premier League starts, Grealish had four assists, winning the August Player of the Month award. This explosive start immediately made him a new idol in the eyes of Everton fans.
Grealish's loan deal with Man City comes with a £50 million buyout clause in the summer of 2026. If the deal goes through, the English midfielder will be Everton's most expensive signing in history.
However, the £50 million fee is not fixed, because Grealish's book value will gradually decrease over time. By the summer of 2026, his contract with Man City will have only one year left, meaning the transfer value will be significantly lower.
However, the wage issue is a big obstacle for Everton. Grealish currently receives around 12 million pounds a year - a figure Everton will find difficult to pay if a transfer fee is added. The most feasible scenario is a free transfer, in case Grealish wants to stay with Everton long term.
On the night of September 13, Grealish will have the opportunity to face his old team Aston Villa in round 4 of the Premier League.
