On the morning of October 5, at Nguyen Van Binh Book Street (Saigon Ward - Ho Chi Minh City), there was an exchange and book launch "Go for it so that your life will not be in vain" by author Hoang Thi Thu Hien - who is known for her nearly 10-year journey of "carrying books" to children in remote areas.
The persistent "sower of letters"
The launch attracted a large number of readers who are teachers, students and the book-loving community to interact and listen to the author's sharing and many guests such as Mr. Le Hoang - Director of Ho Chi Minh City Book Street; Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Founder of the House of Wisdom and Humanitarian Bookcase; MC Quach Le Anh Khang...
Author Hoang Thi Thu Hien used to be a literature teacher at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted. After retiring, she continued her work of "sowing letters", considering it her life's work. Over 155 trips through 37 provinces and cities, nearly 784,000 books were delivered to children. "Carrying books to children is not a job, but a career" - Ms. Hien shared.
Author Hoang Thi Thu Hien shares about her journey to students across the country to give away good books.
For nearly 10 years, Ms. Hoang Thi Thu Hien and the project "Good books for primary school students" have organized more than 155 seminars and exchanges to inspire teachers and students to "I love books". Up to now, 3,410 primary schools across the country have received donated books, bringing knowledge to more than 1.24 million students in many provinces and cities such as Da Nang, Lam Dong, Quang Binh , Dak Lak, Nghe An... - lands with many difficulties but always full of the desire to learn.
Mr. Le Hoang, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Book Street, shared that he joined the project nearly 10 years ago. “I believed from the beginning that this was a valuable project. During the journey, I realized that this is not just a charity activity, but a responsible humanitarian journey,” he said.
Many businesses not only sponsored but also directly accompanied the group, going to the place to deliver the books. “Those trips were extremely difficult, sometimes arriving at midnight and leaving early in the morning. But it was the love and perseverance of Ms. Hien and the teachers that created real value,” Mr. Hoang emotionally recounted.
According to Mr. Le Hoang, in each trip, Ms. Hien always reminded that each donation must be used for the right purpose, reaching the children in remote areas. Therefore, the teachers in the group all paid for all travel, living expenses, and book transportation so that all donated resources could be used to buy books and support disadvantaged students.
Many teachers, students, and pupils... came and were excited about each page of the book.
Pages filled with the word "love"
“Go for a great life so that it is not wasted” is not simply a travelogue or memoir, but rather emotional slices of the journey of spreading knowledge. There, readers encounter the trembling eyes of children holding their first book, makeshift libraries nestled next to toilets, or innocent voices: “Milk and books, I choose books, teacher”.
All profits from the book will be donated by the author to people in flood-affected areas.
The exchange also became an opportunity for young people to express their feelings and find their own inspiration. Nguyen Ngoc Ly (23 years old, student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture) shared: "I came here because I really admire Ms. Hien. I hope I can also spread joy and positive energy to others like her." For many students, her journey is not only a story of "sowing words", but also a gentle reminder to travel to experience, to open your heart and to learn to love.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thu Hien said that all royalties from the book "Go for it so that a life is not in vain" will be used to support people affected by storm No. 10, continuing the spirit of charity and community responsibility throughout her journey of "sowing letters".
