Xim Vang Commune is located at an altitude of nearly 1,500 meters above sea level, with an area of over 232 km² and a population of nearly 7,600, 100% of whom are Mong ethnic people. This is one of the localities with the largest terraced fields in the Northwest region.
Every Mid-Autumn Festival, when the rice is ripe, Xim Vang becomes more bustling than ever with the Golden Season Festival - a unique cultural event that attracts a large number of tourists from near and far.
During the festival, visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of folk games such as rice harvesting competitions, fast rice threshing, tug of war, stick pushing, rice cake pounding, fabric embroidery, pao throwing or traditional Mong flute playing.
Festival activities create a joyful, warm and happy atmosphere for the Mong people in the highlands.
The terraced fields here were reclaimed by the Mong people from the 1960s to the 1970s. In 2010, thanks to the State's support in reclaiming and solidifying the irrigation system, the rice field area continued to expand.
Up to now, the whole commune has about 900 hectares of terraced fields. People have known how to apply science and technology, put new rice varieties into production, improve productivity and quality of rice.
The ripe rice season in Xim Vang usually lasts from mid-September to mid-October every year, most beautiful in late September and early October. This is also the ideal time for tourists to visit, take photos and experience the rice harvest with the locals, fully feeling the golden season colors on the high mountains of the Northwest.
