EVNGENCO2 is researching investment in two projects in Quang Tri.

In the revised Power Development Plan VIII, EVNGENCO2 has two projects in Quang Tri province: the Quang Tri Hydropower Expansion Project and the Quang Tri 2 Irrigation and Hydropower Floating Solar Power Project.

On July 30th, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, Hoang Nam, held a working session with EVNGENCO2 (Power Generation Corporation 2) regarding the implementation of the Quang Tri Hydropower Expansion Project and the Quang Tri 2 Irrigation and Hydropower Floating Solar Power Project, both included in the revised Power Plan VIII.

At the meeting, representatives from EVNGENCO2 reported on the progress of key projects. According to the report, in the revised Power Development Plan VIII, EVNGENCO2 has two projects in Quang Tri province: the Quang Tri Hydropower Expansion Project with a capacity of 48 MW, scheduled for implementation from 2025 to 2030, and the Quang Tri 2 Floating Solar Power Project with a capacity of 40 MW, expected to be implemented from 2031 to 2035.

Representatives from Power Generation Corporation 2 (EVNGENCO2) reported on two hydropower projects.

Specifically, the Quang Tri Hydropower Expansion Project, located in Khe Sanh commune, has a scale of 1 generating unit with a capacity of 48 MW, a preliminary total investment after tax of approximately VND 867.55 billion, connected to the 110 kV power grid, and is expected to be completed and put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2030. Currently, EVNGENCO2 has completed the initial legal procedures and signed a consulting contract to prepare the investment proposal report with Power Engineering Consulting Company No. 1 (PECC1).

Representatives from EVNGENCO2 requested that the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee direct relevant departments and agencies to promptly advise on updating and supplementing the Quang Tri Hydropower Expansion Project into the revised Provincial Planning, and to include it in the Plan for implementing the Planning to provide a legal basis for implementing the next steps and ensuring the committed progress.

In addition, representatives from EVNGENCO2 also committed to closely coordinating with relevant authorities and complying with all applicable laws and regulations regarding investment, land, environment, and social welfare.

Also at the meeting, representatives from the departments and agencies of Quang Tri province provided specific feedback, focusing on issues such as completing legal documents, determining land use boundaries, assessing environmental impacts, planning for electricity grid infrastructure connections, livelihoods for the people, compensation, land clearance, and resettlement arrangements for people in the affected area.

Ms. Le Thi Thuong, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Department of Finance, expressed her opinion at the meeting.

Accordingly, there was a consensus that it is necessary to expedite the necessary procedures, ensuring feasibility, safety, efficiency, and alignment with the goal of developing Quang Tri into a clean energy hub in the Central region.

Speaking at the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam affirmed that Quang Tri province fully supports the investment in the construction of the Quang Tri Hydropower Expansion Project and the Quang Tri 2 Floating Solar Power Project, considering these to be important projects contributing to socio -economic development and realizing the goal of becoming the energy center of Central Vietnam.

Hoang Nam, Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, delivered a directive speech at the working session.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee also assigned the Department of Finance to take the lead, in coordination with relevant departments, agencies, and localities, to research and advise the Provincial People's Committee on reviewing, updating, and supplementing the project into the revised Provincial Planning, and to guide the investor in completing the relevant legal documents and procedures.

Relevant departments and agencies need to create the best conditions for the project to be implemented on schedule, safely, efficiently, and in a way that harmonizes the interests of economic development and environmental protection, while ensuring the livelihoods of people in the project area.
