The FIFA homepage posted a clip praising goalkeeper Kim Thanh of the Vietnamese women's national team. At the beginning of the clip, most US fans admitted they knew absolutely nothing about the goalkeeper born in 1993.
However, after the US team's opening match ended, American fans expressed their admiration for Kim Thanh's talent. Despite the Vietnamese team's loss, Kim Thanh received much praise. Without her talent, the Vietnamese team's net might not have been breached just three times. Notably, Kim Thanh saved a penalty kick taken by Alex Morgan.
American audiences were impressed with goalkeeper Kim Thanh.
" She had an extraordinary game ," commented a US team fan. Another spectator who came to watch live at the stadium implicitly praised Kim Thanh: " Stopping Alex Morgan is a big problem ."
Meanwhile, a female fan of the US team exclaimed, " She did an excellent job. I'm really impressed with her ."
US goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher praised her, saying, " I think she played well, made many excellent saves, and always played with confidence ."
According to Sofascore's scoring system, goalkeeper Kim Thanh received a score of 7.8 – the highest for the Vietnamese women's team in the match against the US team. Despite conceding 3 goals, the goalkeeper wearing jersey number 14 still had an outstanding performance with many saves.
Specifically, Kim Thanh made 5 saves from opponents' shots. In addition, the 29-year-old goalkeeper had a total of 9 clearances to avert danger.
Only four players received higher scores than Kim Thanh: Sophia Smith, Lindsey Horan, Savannah DeMelo, and Julie Ertz.
Kim Thanh continued that form in the match against Portugal. She once again achieved a high score from Sofascore, with 8.3 points, ranking only behind Francisca Nazareth (9.1 points).
The Vietnamese women's team's journey ended after three losses in the group stage. However, the fighting spirit and unwavering determination of Kim Thanh and her teammates were praised by fans back home.
Currently, the Vietnamese women's national team is focusing on preparing for the 19th Asian Games (Hangzhou, China) at the end of September. They are in the same group as Japan, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
