Conor Gallagher could leave Atletico Madrid in January 2026 following discussions with manager Diego Simeone. |
According to Marca , the English midfielder recently had a direct conversation with manager Simeone about his future. Gallagher wants Atletico to facilitate his move to Manchester United in the January 2026 transfer window.
During a face-to-face meeting with coach Simeone, Gallagher expressed concerns about limited playing time and his future at the club. After hearing Gallagher's presentation, coach Simeone and the Atletico management were willing to let him leave in January 2026, provided a suitable offer met their price.
The La Liga club valued Gallagher at around €30 million (equivalent to £26 million). Atletico also only wanted to sell the player outright and would not accept a loan deal. The former Chelsea star moved to Atlético Madrid for €42 million in the summer of 2024, but never truly secured a starting place under Simeone.
With manager Ruben Amorim looking to strengthen his midfield, Gallagher would be a suitable option in terms of both age and price. If Gallagher arrives at Old Trafford, Amorim will have another versatile option in midfield who understands English football.
Manchester United had been interested in Gallagher since the end of August, even submitting a loan offer, but Atletico refused at the time because they didn't want to lose a key player at the start of the season.
