According to Neowin , a technical conflict that lasted nearly 10 months, causing the "blue screen of death" error and preventing numerous gaming PCs from upgrading to Windows 11 24H2, has finally been resolved by Microsoft. The upgrade path is now wide open for gamers.
Windows 11 24H2 is no longer a 'nightmare' for gaming PCs.
The problem stems from an incompatibility between the extremely popular anti-cheat software Easy Anti-Cheat and the architecture of Intel Core 12th generation (Alder Lake) processors and later. Easy Anti-Cheat, which is automatically installed with popular games like Fortnite and Apex Legends , caused system crashes and blue screen errors (BSODs) on these systems when they attempted to update to Windows 11 version 24H2.

In response to this situation, Microsoft had to impose a compatibility blocking order to protect users, preventing affected machine configurations from receiving the update.
After a long period of research and troubleshooting, Microsoft has officially announced that they have successfully resolved this conflict. The blocking has been lifted, and gaming PCs that were previously "stuck" can now safely upgrade to the latest version of Windows.
Although the main issue has been resolved, Microsoft has also issued a few notes:
- Some users may still encounter incompatibility warnings. The simple solution is to ensure all your games are updated to the latest version.
- Other compatibility issues (unrelated to this bug) may still exist and prevent certain computers from updating.
Now, gamers can access a host of new features and improvements on Windows 11 24H2, including deeper integration with the Phone Link app, direct support for compressing and decompressing .7z and .tar files, and the ability to browse files on Android phones directly from File Explorer.
The successful resolution of this technical conflict is great news, demonstrating Microsoft's efforts to ensure a stable experience for its large gaming community on its platform.
