Rice fluctuates slightly, fresh rice tends to decrease

Today, December 17th, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region are fluctuating slightly. Market volume is low, rice prices are relatively stable, and fresh paddy prices are trending downwards.

Regarding rice, the price of fresh rice remains high but is showing signs of turning around. According to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the current price of IR 50404 rice (fresh) ranges from 7,600 - 7,800 VND/kg; OM 5451 rice ranges from 8,600 - 8,800 VND/kg; OM 380 rice ranges from 7,200 VND/kg; OM 18 rice (fresh) ranges from 9,000 - 9,100 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 rice (fresh) ranges from 9,100 - 9,200 VND/kg; Nang Hoa 9 rice ranges from 9,200 - 9,400 VND/kg; and Nhat rice ranges from 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg.

In many localities today, the market is sluggish, demand is slow, and rice prices are trending downwards. In Long An , trading is quiet, many buyers have stopped purchasing, and prices are fluctuating slightly downwards. In An Giang, there is little trading of late-season rice, with most of the rice already sold. In Bac Lieu, the market is sluggish, demand is slow, and few traders are inquiring about new purchases. In Dong Thap, farmers are offering early winter-spring rice for sale sporadically, with trading remaining slow.

Similarly, with rice, the quantity is small, fragrant rice prices have increased slightly, and warehouses are still buying slowly due to the slight decrease in rice prices over the past weekend. According to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the price of IR 504 raw rice has increased by 100 VND, fluctuating between 9,700-9,900 VND/kg; finished IR 504 rice is fluctuating between 12,000-12,200 VND/kg.

Regarding by-products, prices fluctuate between 5,700 and 8,800 VND/kg. Currently, the price of fragrant rice bran has decreased by 100 VND, fluctuating between 8,700 and 8,800 VND/kg; the price of dry rice bran fluctuates between 5,700 and 5,800 VND/kg.

Reports from various localities today indicate low rice supply and slight price fluctuations depending on quality. In Sa Dec (Dong Thap), rice is arriving sporadically, with few boats carrying high-quality rice, slow warehouse purchases, and little change in price compared to yesterday. In Lap Vo (Dong Thap), rice is arriving sporadically, warehouse purchases are weak, and prices are fluctuating slightly depending on quality.

In Sa Dec market, rice is scarce, with sporadic purchases of market goods. Fragrant rice is trading better than other types, and prices of all types of rice are relatively stable. In An Cu (Cai Be, Tien Giang), rice is available sporadically, with few high-quality grains, and fragrant rice prices have increased slightly.

At retail markets, rice prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Regular rice fluctuated between 17,000 and 18,000 VND/kg. Currently, Nang Nhen rice has the highest listed price at 28,000 VND/kg. Fragrant rice is offered at higher prices ranging from 20,000 to 22,000 VND/kg; Jasmine rice at 17,000 to 18,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa rice at 21,500 VND/kg; long-grain Thai fragrant rice at 20,000 to 22,000 VND/kg; Huong Lai rice at 22,000 VND/kg; common white rice at 17,500 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice at 21,000 VND/kg; regular Soc rice at 18,500 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice at 21,000 VND/kg; and Japanese rice at 22,500 VND/kg.

On the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices remained unchanged today compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), standard 5% broken rice was priced at US$509/ton; 25% broken rice at US$477/ton; and 100% broken rice at US$405/ton.
