On the morning of April 11th, the domestic rice market witnessed mixed fluctuations. While the price of raw rice showed a slight decrease, the prices of glutinous rice and rice bran increased slightly compared to yesterday. Trading in many localities in the Mekong Delta is gradually becoming more active again, especially for fragrant rice varieties.
In An Giang and Dong Thap provinces, rice supplies remain fairly stable. Warehouses continue to inquire about purchasing regularly, but prices generally haven't changed much. However, in An Cu ( Tien Giang province ), supply is lower, purchasing activity is slow, and prices remain unchanged.
The price of raw OM 5451 rice decreased by 50 VND/kg, currently fluctuating between 9,600 and 9,750 VND/kg. Meanwhile, other rice varieties such as OM 380, IR 504, and OM 18 maintained stable prices. Finished IR 504 rice is currently priced at 7,600 - 7,800 VND/kg, while Nang Hoa 9 rice ranges from 6,550 - 6,750 VND/kg.
At retail markets in An Giang , rice prices remain unchanged. Regular rice sells for 15,000 to 16,000 VND/kg, while fragrant rice ranges from 18,000 to 22,000 VND/kg. Some special varieties, such as Nang Nhen rice, are offered at the highest price, around 28,000 VND/kg.
The glutinous rice market also recorded a slight increase today. The price of fresh IR 4625 glutinous rice increased by 100 VND, reaching 7,700 – 7,900 VND/kg. Three-month dried glutinous rice remained stable at 9,600 - 9,700 VND/kg. This is considered a positive sign in the context of recovering supply in many areas.
Prices of by-products on the market today generally remained stable. Specifically, rice bran prices increased by 150 VND, currently ranging from 5,750 to 5,950 VND/kg. Rice bran grades 3-4 maintained their prices at around 6,700-6,800 VND/kg, while fragrant rice bran fluctuated between 7,100 and 7,300 VND/kg. Rice husk continued to trade around 800-900 VND/kg.
Regarding domestic rice prices, the market in many localities in the Mekong Delta region is starting to improve. In Bac Lieu , rice is being reserved in large quantities, the price of fragrant rice remains stable, and ST rice continues to increase in price. In An Giang, farmers are offering to sell at higher prices, however, the remaining rice supply is not large, causing transactions to proceed quite slowly.
In Can Tho, despite a relatively good supply, demand is weak, causing trading to slow down. Long An recorded a slight increase in rice prices, but purchasing power remains low.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region remained mostly stable today. OM 5451 rice is currently fluctuating between 6,200 and 6,400 VND/kg, while Dai Thom 8 rice is priced from 6,800 to 7,000 VND/kg. OM 18 rice (fresh) is trading in the range of 6,700 - 6,900 VND/kg. Other varieties such as Nang Hoa 9 maintain a level of 6,550 - 6,750 VND/kg, while IR 50404 and OM 380 (fresh) fluctuate from 5,800 - 6,000 VND/kg.
In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices are currently quite high. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 25% broken rice is exported at a price of US$370/ton. 5% broken rice fetches up to US$399/ton. This price is higher than competitors such as Thailand at US$394/ton, Pakistan at US$391/ton, and India at US$376/ton.
In the Philippines, rice supplies are showing signs of decline. According to Philstar, citing data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the country's rice inventory as of March 1st reached 1.61 million tons. While this represents an increase of approximately 18% compared to the same period last year, it is down nearly 20% from the 2.01 million tons recorded in February.
This is also the lowest inventory level in the past year, since March 2024 when it reached only 1.37 million tons. Rice reserves in households currently stand at approximately 784,500 tons, up nearly 13% from the previous year. Meanwhile, reserves at the National Food Authority (NFA) have surged, from just over 41,000 tons last year to nearly 300,000 tons.
Conversely, the commercial sector recorded a sharp decline. As of March 1st, rice reserves in this sector had decreased by 16.3%, to approximately 527,780 tons.
