On the morning of October 25th, a leader of Khanh Hoa General Hospital stated that doctors in the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department had successfully treated a rare case where maggots were found living in a patient's ear. This case serves as a warning about the importance of ear hygiene, especially for the elderly or those unable to care for themselves.
Previously, on October 23rd, a 48-year-old female patient was brought to Khanh Hoa General Hospital by her family with a severely swollen, draining, and painful ear. Upon examining the ear, doctors were surprised to discover several white objects wriggling inside the ear canal.

Five maggots were found living in the patient's ear.

After draining the fluid from the ear canal, doctors removed five live maggots along with the carcass of an insect lodged near the eardrum. According to the doctors, because the patient was unable to care for himself, insects may have entered his ear, nested, and laid eggs during his daily activities, which then hatched into maggots.
Representatives from Khanh Hoa General Hospital stated that fortunately, this case was detected in time. Had there been a delay, the patient could have suffered a perforated eardrum, causing serious hearing damage. This serves as a warning about the importance of caring for and maintaining good ear, nose, and throat hygiene, especially for those who are unable to perform personal hygiene themselves.
Doctors advise that everyone should keep their ears clean and dry and seek medical attention immediately if they experience any pain, itching, or unusual discharge. For young children and those unable to maintain personal hygiene, families should regularly check and clean their ears to promptly detect any abnormalities.
