In August 2020, Kim Tien was recruited into the Kien Giang province karate talent team when she had just finished primary school. Two years later, she affirmed her talent by winning a silver medal at the 2022 national youth karate championship. One year later, Kim Tien won a bronze medal at the 2023 national youth karate championship and a silver medal at the 2023 national strong club championship...
Recently, Kim Tien surprised fans when she won the gold medal in the women's kumite (sparring) over 61kg category at the 2024 Southeast Asian Karate Championship in Thailand at the end of April.

The 2024 Southeast Asian Karate Championship has the participation of more than 400 athletes from 11 countries in the region, of which Kim Tien is the only and first athlete from Kien Giang to participate in this tournament. Kim Tien said: “I am happy and emotional to win the gold medal. Winning the gold medal at this tournament is both a great success for me and a stepping stone for me to continue to strive and practice hard.”
According to Kim Tien, to be successful in karate, in addition to practicing hard and strictly following the coach's lesson plan, she also studies and learns good attack and defense techniques from athletes around the world ; trains her courage, confidence and calmness in all situations to be able to read and predict her opponent's moves.
“I like karate because of its speed because in just a moment, a small second, if I strike at the right time, my opponent will lose their reflexes, thereby winning the absolute score. In addition, the strategy of luring the opponent into your playing style is also the beauty of this sport,” Kim Tien said.
After winning the Southeast Asian Karate Championship, Kim Tien gathered with the national youth karate team at the National Sports Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City. She and the team and coaches focused on the next important tournaments, especially the Asian Youth Karate Championship in the Philippines.
Coach of the national and youth karate team of Kien Giang Province Sports Training and Competition Center Ho Thanh Lac said: “Kim Tien joined the karate talent team when she knew absolutely nothing about this sport. However, she impressed the selection board with many outstanding advantages from basic physical strength and body shape... After being exposed to karate, Tien showed her talent and learned quickly, so in just nearly 2 years of concentration, she won her first silver medal at the 2022 National Youth Karate Championship.”
Karate coaches at the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center highly appreciate Kim Tien for her good fighting style with both hands and feet, so Tien can proactively surprise at the time of attack to score points. After scoring points, she flexibly switches from attacking to proactively counterattacking quickly, making the opponent caught up in her tactics... In training and competition, Kim Tien is serious and shows the highest determination and spirit to win.
According to Nguyen Quoc Vinh, Director of the Kien Giang Province Sports Training and Competition Center, Kim Tien was trained under a joint program between the province and the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center. She showed her talent early and achieved many impressive results. Along with many other athletes of the province, Kim Tien is expected by the province to explode in national competitions, especially the 2026 National Sports Festival and higher tournaments...
