Some people believe that AI will lead to job losses and increased inequality. Many people believe that applying AI properly can improve productivity and create new opportunities.
Using AI is both convenient and buggy
Generation Z (those born after 1996) is more likely than anyone else to understand the impact of AI in the workplace. EduBirdie's research surveyed 2.000 Gen Z young people in the US to find out how they use ChatGPT at work.
36% of Gen Z employees apply AI to handle work more effectively. On the other hand, many people struggle with feelings of guilt and dependency when having to use AI. 18% say AI hinders creativity and critical thinking.
These mixed reactions may be because compared to previous generations, Gen Z young people are more aware of the potential consequences of using technology. They grew up in an era where technology changed rapidly, with many topics surrounding the social and ethical impact of AI. Therefore, they cannot hide the feeling of "unrest when they themselves are dependent on AI to work".
Another factor may be the lack of necessary education and training on how to use AI properly and effectively. The study revealed that 20% of Gen Z respondents had difficulty using AI in the workplace. Even 2% were fired for using ChatGPT.
I don't believe I'll be replaced by AI
Despite the challenges, AI also has many benefits. Research shows that nearly half of Gen Zers agree that AI makes them more creative. 7 in 1 people say AI helps them increase their income.
This shows that AI has the potential to improve productivity and create new opportunities, especially in fields that require creativity and innovation.
Survey results show that 61% of Gen Z use ChatGPT for document searching and research purposes, 56% use this technology to generate ideas and solutions, and 42% use it to write and create content. Only 23% use AI to edit their resumes to help them stand out more to employers.
A recent survey also shows that generation Z is not very concerned about AI replacing them in the workplace. Only 9% believe it is likely to happen by 2024. However, 61% think AI could take over their jobs within the next 10 years.
In particular, because of the frequent use of AI to write programming languages, people working in this field will worry about whether they will be replaced by AI. However, although AI-powered applications like ChatGPT have huge amounts of data to program with, they lack the experience and expertise needed to solve very specific or complex problems.
