Pig prices today, August 22, 2025, in the North continued to witness many localities slide, while the Central Highlands and the South could not escape the downward spiral of prices.
The unbelievable "slide" in the North
The Northern live hog market witnessed a shocking drop, with a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg in a series of provinces and cities. This is an unexpected development, because this area is considered stable.
Pork prices in Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh and Phu Tho all decreased by VND1,000/kg, to VND56,000/kg. Hai Phong also fell to VND57,000/kg after a similar decrease. In Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Son La, prices all dropped by VND1,000/kg, currently at VND55,000/kg.
However, some provinces still maintain the price, such as Cao Bang, Lang Son, Lao Cai maintain 56,000 VND/kg. Bac Ninh, Hanoi , Ninh Binh and Hung Yen provinces continue to purchase at 57,000 VND/kg. Currently, the price of pork in the North fluctuates from 55,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.

Central Highlands - Central region "swept away", Lam Dong still maintains the throne
Not out of the trend, the pig market in the Central Highlands also recorded scattered decreases. Although the decrease was not too large, it still raised concerns.
Quang Tri, Da Nang and Quang Ngai all decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, currently down to 54,000 VND/kg. Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa also decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, trading at 56,000 VND/kg and 57,000 VND/kg.
Some other provinces still maintain prices, such as Thanh Hoa, Nghe An with 56,000 VND/kg, Ha Tinh, Gia Lai around 54,000 VND/kg and Hue stable at 55,000 VND/kg. Notably, Lam Dong is still a bright spot when maintaining the highest price in the region at 60,000 VND/kg. Currently, the price of pigs in the Central - Central Highlands fluctuates around 54,000 - 60,000 VND/kg.

The South is also "restless"
In the South, pork prices are also not immune to the downward trend. A decrease of 1,000 VND/kg was recorded in many provinces and cities, causing concern for pig farmers.
Pig prices in Dong Nai and Tay Ninh both decreased by VND1,000/kg, to VND60,000/kg. Other provinces still maintained stable prices such as Dong Thap, Ca Mau and Can Tho (VND61,000/kg). Meanwhile, An Giang, Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long were stable at around VND60,000/kg, also the lowest in the region along with Dong Nai and Tay Ninh. Currently, pig prices in the South fluctuate between VND60,000 - VND61,000/kg.

"Big guy" BAF spends 2,000 billion VND to build a super pig farming project in Quang Tri, with an unprecedented "huge" scale
On August 19, 2025, BAF Vietnam Agricultural Joint Stock Company (BAF) officially started the Gia Han High-Tech Pig Farm Complex project in Quang Tri. With a total investment of up to VND 2,000 billion, this is BAF's largest-scale project to date, expected to supply the market with 15,000 sows and 450,000 pigs.
This important event is part of a series of 250 key projects and works being simultaneously deployed in 34 provinces and cities, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2. This activity is carried out under the direction of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatches 57/CD-TTg and 129/CD-TTg.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by many high-ranking representatives, including Mr. Pham Kim Dang, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment; Mr. Tran Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee, along with leaders of the Provincial People's Committee, departments, branches and strategic partners of BAF.
BAF representative said that investing in high technology and biosecurity not only helps businesses minimize disease risks and improve business efficiency, but also contributes to stabilizing the supply of clean, safe and reasonably priced meat to the market. The project is expected to create a new step forward, contributing to ensuring national food security.
