On March 20, Forbes magazine announced the list of billionaires in 2017. This list lists the richest people in the world. Among them, the thing that most excited the Vietnamese public was that Forbes recognized Vietjet Air CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao as the second USD billionaire in Vietnam .
Forbes noted that this year there were 15 new self-made female billionaires. Among them, Vietnam, for the first time in history, has a representative, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao. According to Forbes, Ms. Thao became a billionaire after listing shares of the low-cost airline Vietjet Air on the stock exchange in February 2017.
Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong and Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao are USD billionaires of Vietnam.
Forbes reported that at the end of March 20, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao's assets reached 1.2 billion USD. Although Ms. Thao's assets mainly come from Vietjet Air shares, Forbes recognized Ms. Thao as the founder and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Sovico Holdings.
Forbes describes Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao as: “ Vietnam’s first self-made female billionaire took her low-cost airline Vietjet Air public in February 2017. She launched the airline in 2011 and started its explosive growth with ads featuring bikini-clad flight attendants.”
Forbes added that Vietjet Air has about 300 flights per day, accounting for 40% of the market share in Vietnam. In addition, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao also invests in HD Bank and the real estate market through 3 coastal resorts.
Thus, it can be seen that Ms. Thao's assets are calculated from many sources, not just from Vietjet Air. According to the closing price of VJC shares on March 20, the amount of VJC shares held by Ms. Thao is equivalent to VND12,319 billion (about USD540 million).
