Minh Hieu has been passionate about foreign languages since he was a child and his family created opportunities for him to be exposed to English through watching YouTube videos and reading foreign books. This helped him build a foundation in listening, pronunciation, and speaking skills.
Realizing the stress of the transfer exam, Minh Hieu's mother encouraged him to take the IELTS exam to gain more advantages. This was the time when Minh Hieu clearly realized his goal and started to study with direction.
Minh Hieu spent 3 months of the summer studying and practicing skills. He studied at home, did not attend classes at the center, and did not study with teachers specializing in IELTS.
During the learning process, he relied on AI support, searched for documents online, participated in online courses and practiced with Filipino teachers. Every day, Hieu spent 2 hours completing an IELTS practice test with all four skills.
The Writing section was a big challenge for Minh Hieu because his ability to read information from charts was limited and many academic topics were beyond his understanding. He proactively searched for online courses, did exercises according to instructions and practiced writing according to online reference materials. When he finished, he asked AI to check the results and help correct his essay.
When I received my IELTS test results, I was extremely surprised because my Writing score was higher than expected.
Normally, the Reading section is done with the strategy of doing Matching Headings last, then circling the answers. Hieu has had the habit of reading English since he was young, so he “handles” the type of exercise in his own way: Reading the text from beginning to end and answering the questions one by one.
For speaking skills, Hieu studied with a Filipino teacher who had taught him for 8 years. When Hieu planned to take the IELTS exam, she continued to accompany him, switching to practicing speaking skills according to the exam format.

When he was an 8th grader, Hieu participated in the grade-skipping exam and, together with his seniors, entered the Cau Giay District English team. Ms. Mai Hien, Minh Hieu's homeroom teacher, said he was the only student at the school selected to compete. After many days of studying, he won third place at the district level with 13.9 points.
" Hieu has a passion for English and learns it because of his passion, so he has flexible language thinking ability, good pronunciation, and natural reflexes. This is a highlight compared to his classmates ," the teacher shared.
In the near future, Minh Hieu will focus on studying for the 10th grade entrance exam and aim to realize his dream of becoming an English teacher. “From my passion for English and admiration for teachers, I hope to become an English teacher in the future,” Minh Hieu shared.
