Billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao got richer on the day the stock market tumbled.

(Dan Tri) - Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao has an additional 10 million USD, the only person on the list of billionaires whose assets have increased.

The stock market trading session on September 5th brought a lot of excitement to investors with unexpected twists and turns.

In the morning session, the market surged past its historical peak of 1,700 points, but in the afternoon, increased selling pressure pushed the index down 29 points. The VN-Index closed the week unable to protect its gains, falling to 1,666.97 points.

During this session, VIC ( Vingroup ) shares, which had been the main driving force for the market, at one point rising nearly 4%, fell back to the reference price. VHM (Vinhomes) shares fell more than 2.2%, contributing to the group negatively impacting the overall index.

Vinpearl (VPL) shares were the only stock in the Vingroup "family" to rise slightly by 0.37%, but this was not enough to reverse the overall decline.

Among the billionaire stock group, only VJC ( Vietjet Air) maintained its upward momentum with a 1.43% increase. From the beginning of July until now, this stock has continuously risen from around 90,000 VND/unit to 142,000 VND/unit currently, a 58% increase in just over two months.

The surge in stock prices pushed the net worth of Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet, to $3.6 billion, an increase of $10 million in just one day. Ms. Thao was also the only billionaire to see her wealth increase after yesterday's volatile market session, according to Forbes.

Meanwhile, billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong's net worth remained unchanged at $12.7 billion. Billionaires Ho Hung Anh - Chairman of Techcombank and Nguyen Dang Quang - Chairman of Masan both saw their net worth decrease by approximately $25-26 million.

Billionaire Tran Dinh Long, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hoa Phat Group, saw the sharpest decline in his net worth due to the volatile HPG stock after several bullish trading sessions. This stock also experienced the biggest drop among billionaires' stocks, falling 3.5% to 28,800 VND per unit. Consequently, Long's net worth decreased by $107 million, to $2.9 billion.
