Vietnam U22 defeated Malaysia U22, proudly advancing to the semi-finals of the SEA Games 33.

In their final Group C match at the SEA Games 33 at the Rajamangala Stadium, Vietnam U22 defeated Malaysia U22 2-0. This result secured Vietnam U22's place in the semi-finals against the Philippines U22. Meanwhile, Malaysia U22 will have to wait for the result of Indonesia U22's match against Myanmar U22 on the evening of December 12th to know their fate.

Commenting on their team's defeat against Vietnam U22, the Makan Bola newspaper published an article titled: "Vietnam U22 thwarts Malaysia U22's big dream." In the article, the author commented: "Vietnam U22 created tremendous pressure and scored two goals through Hieu Minh and Minh Phuc. With this advantage, they deliberately slowed down the pace of the game in the second half."

With this result, Vietnam U22 prevented Malaysia U22 from reaching the semi-finals in this match. Previously, coach Nafuzi Zain's team only needed a draw to achieve their goal. Now, the fate of the "Tigers" rests in the hands of Indonesia U22 and Myanmar U22.

In another article, Makan Bola newspaper outlined two ways for the Malaysian U22 team to advance. They analyzed: “At this point, the Malaysian U22 team has 3 points and a goal difference of +1. Meanwhile, the Indonesian U22 and Myanmar U22 teams both have 0 points, with goal differences of -1 and -2 respectively.”

Therefore, U22 Malaysia will advance to the semi-finals as the best second-placed team if the match between U22 Indonesia and U22 Myanmar ends in a draw or if neither team wins by more than 3 goals.”

Meanwhile, the New Straits Times argued that the Malaysian U22 team played too passively, creating many gaps for the Vietnamese U22 team to exploit. Coach Nafuzi Zain's team conceded goals quite easily. The Malaysian U22 team only truly played well when the Vietnamese U22 team had already secured the victory. This made their efforts seem too late.

The Bharian newspaper headlined: "Malaysia U22 falls to Vietnam U22." The author admitted: "The dream of reaching the semi-finals for the young Malaysian team is in danger of being shattered after their defeat against Vietnam U22. It's quite regrettable that Malaysia U22 only needed a draw against Vietnam U22 to secure a place in the next round, but the whole team failed to do so."

The specter of being eliminated in the group stage, just like at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, is looming large for Coach Nafuzi Zain and his team. The team will await the result of the match between U22 Indonesia and U22 Myanmar to know their fate.”

The Hmetro newspaper acknowledged: “The Malaysian U22 team no longer has control over its own destiny after the 0-2 defeat against the Vietnamese U22 team. Now, the team's fate rests in the hands of the Indonesian and Myanmar U22 teams. Once again, Malaysian football has fallen to Vietnamese football at the youth level.”

The match between U22 Indonesia and U22 Myanmar will take place at 6 PM on December 12th. At this point, the three teams that have qualified for the semi-finals are U22 Vietnam, U22 Thailand, and U22 Philippines. U22 Vietnam will face U22 Philippines at 3:30 PM on December 15th. U22 Thailand will meet the best runner-up team at 8 PM on the same day.
