Mr. A Prữih, 68 years old, of the Ba Na ethnic group, the village elder of Kon Mơ Nay Sơ Lam 1 village (Truong Chinh ward, Kon Tum city), has always lived by the motto "actions speak louder than words." Thanks to this, he has earned the trust and confidence of the villagers, who have entrusted him with the important responsibility of being the village elder from 2005 to the present.

Sharing his thoughts with us, village elder A Prữih said: "To spread the word and encourage villagers to listen to and follow my example, I must first live a good life, setting a good example and leading the way in campaigns and emulation movements launched by various levels and sectors, such as: 'Changing the mindset and working methods of ethnic minorities, helping ethnic minorities rise out of poverty sustainably,' 'All people unite to build a cultured life,' 'Joining hands to build new rural areas and civilized cities,' 'Farmers competing in excellent production and business'..."

He and his wife had nine children, raising them well and providing them with a good education. Of their nine children, four work in state agencies and units; three are Party members, and one son is currently the Party Secretary of Quang Trung Ward (Kon Tum City). In life, he always taught his children to live harmoniously with their neighbors, and to love and help those less fortunate.

Currently, the couple lives with their youngest son. The family cultivates 2 acres of rice paddies (producing two crops per year), 4 acres of banana plantations, and raises 9 cows and 10 pigs, enjoying a stable life.

As a man of high moral standards, with a harmonious family and successful children, his voice was always listened to and followed by the villagers. He shared that at first, some people didn't listen, frequently gathering to drink alcohol and living in unsanitary conditions. However, through a persistent approach, repeatedly visiting their homes to talk, analyze right and wrong, encourage them to work hard, raise their children well, and take care of their family's economic well-being, they gradually understood, listened, and followed his advice, abandoning their bad habits.

Through village meetings, he disseminated new policies and guidelines of the Party and State, as well as legal documents, to the people so they could understand and follow them. He regularly visited each household to promote and encourage people to change their way of thinking and doing things, to comply well with the Party's guidelines and the State's laws; and to properly implement the village's customs and regulations.

In addition, every Saturday, he encourages villagers to participate in cleaning their houses and communal houses, and also encourages them to plant flowers and ornamental trees along the village roads to create a beautiful landscape and ensure a healthy, green, clean, and beautiful living environment.

The village has 356 households and 1,592 inhabitants, of which 196 households and 840 people are ethnic minorities. Thanks to hard work and frugal spending, the villagers' incomes have steadily increased. To date, there are no longer any families living in temporary housing; the number of poor households has decreased to 11 compared to 50 households five years ago; the number of households with average or above-average living standards and the number of well-off and wealthy households have increased significantly compared to previous years.

Thanks to Mr. A Prữih's contributions, the village of Kon Mơ Nay Sơ Lam 1 has undergone many changes in recent years. The residential area now has a clean and tidy appearance; 99% of the village roads and alleys are paved with concrete or asphalt. There are no longer livestock pens near houses; every house now has a fence and grows flowers, ornamental plants, and vegetables, creating a beautiful landscape.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Viet, Chairman of the People's Committee of Truong Chinh Ward, said: Mr. A Prữih is a respected village elder in the community. Thanks to his contributions, Kon Mo Nay So Lam 1 village has seen many positive changes in socio-economic development and sustainable poverty reduction.

With many positive contributions to the community, village elder A Prữih has been commended by various levels and sectors; in particular, in 2019 he received a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for his achievements in the 5-year emulation campaign from 2014-2019, and in 2020 he received a Certificate of Merit from the Minister - Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs for his outstanding achievements in implementing ethnic affairs and ethnic policies during the period 2010-2020.
