The main reason is that agricultural land is being converted for infrastructure development, primarily industrial zones, residential areas, and new urban areas.
Gia Loc District encourages farmers to use 100% short-day rice varieties such as Q5, TBR225, TBR279, VNR20, Dai Thom 8, Ha Phat 3, BC15, glutinous rice, etc., to harvest early and free up land for winter crops. The planting season is concentrated from June 25th to July 5th, ending on July 15th. Because the soil does not have a long resting period during the main cropping season, the specialized agency encourages farmers to use lime powder as a base fertilizer to reduce soil acidity, facilitate the rapid decomposition of straw, and prevent root suffocation and disease outbreaks, especially in acidic, low-lying soils.
In the 2023 crop season, Gia Loc district planted 3,748 hectares of rice, with an average yield of 59.13 quintals/hectare.
