As a grade II hospital with 230 beds, 11 departments and specialized rooms, Ha Dong Traditional Medicine Hospital is responsible for examining and treating inpatients and outpatients, providing health care for people in the city using traditional medicine methods, combining traditional medicine with modern medicine.
Director of Ha Dong Traditional Medicine Hospital, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Minh said that in recent years, the hospital has focused on professional development, harmoniously combining traditional medicine and modern medicine. Thanks to that, the hospital has actively contributed to medical examination, treatment and health care for the people. Implementing Decision No. 1893/QD-TTg, the hospital has actively promoted the application of the high-quality traditional medicine clinic model, helping people access medical examination and treatment services right at the facility, conveniently and effectively, while contributing to reducing the overload of upper-level hospitals and improving the quality of health care at the grassroots level. Every year, the hospital examines and treats tens of thousands of patients using traditional medicine combined with modern medicine.
Assessing the development of traditional medicine in health care for people in the city, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Health, Dr. Tran Van Chung said: Decision No. 1893/QD-TTg is an important milestone affirming the role of traditional medicine in the Vietnamese health system, while creating a driving force to promote the strong development of the health sector. Implementing the above Decision, the capital's traditional medicine system has achieved some encouraging results, contributing to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment and protecting people's health. Specifically, the whole city maintains two traditional medicine hospitals with a scale of 550 beds; 86% of medical stations and clinics implement medical examination and treatment according to traditional medicine methods; 368 model medicinal herb gardens, helping to preserve and develop local medicinal resources. The non-public traditional medicine network has also developed strongly with 750 facilities, creating conditions for people to access more easily.
The period 2020-2024 recorded significant changes in the model of using traditional medicine in medical facilities. When the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted medical examination and treatment activities, many facilities had to temporarily suspend or limit inpatient treatment.
Meanwhile, difficulties in bidding for traditional medicine after the pandemic have further increased the challenge of maintaining treatment services. In this context, the traditional medicine treatment model has clearly shifted from inpatient to outpatient, especially in hospitals; the rate of outpatient treatment using traditional medicine has maintained an increase of more than 5% per year.
Dr. Tran Van Chung said that in the context of the health sector promoting comprehensive transformation to improve service quality, the capital's health sector determined that traditional medicine continues to play an important role in protecting, caring for and improving people's health. Based on the results achieved in the recent period, while continuing to develop a plan for developing traditional medicine for the following years, the Hanoi Department of Health requested units to proactively advise and propose to local authorities practical solutions to develop traditional medicine at the grassroots level. In particular, focusing on training a team of professional staff, investing in facilities, equipment and strengthening connections between health facilities to improve the quality of examination and treatment services using traditional medicine.
Medical units continue to promote propaganda about the benefits and effectiveness of traditional medicine, especially methods of combining traditional medicine with modern medicine in diagnosis and treatment.
Applying ancient remedies and at the same time researching and developing new remedies suitable for the current health conditions of patients will be a necessary direction to improve treatment effectiveness.
On the other hand, the Department of Health will strengthen inspection and supervision of medical examination and treatment activities using traditional medicine at medical facilities in the area, strictly handling violations in accordance with legal regulations.
