Storm No. 5 strengthens to level 13, 7 provinces have banned sea travel

Storm No. 5 has strengthened to level 13 and is forecast to continue to strengthen. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that this morning, August 24, storm No. 5 continued to strengthen by 1 level, the storm's intensity increased to level 13, gusting to level 16.

At 9:00 a.m. today, the center of the storm was located at approximately 17.4 degrees north latitude and 111.1 degrees east longitude, approximately 605 km from Nghe An and 580 km east of Ha Tinh . The storm moved west at a speed of approximately 15 km/hour.

The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) said that as of this morning, August 23, 12 coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Gia Lai have issued telegrams to deploy response to storm No. 5 according to telegrams of the Prime Minister. Of which, 7 coastal provinces and cities from Ninh Binh to Hue and Quang Ngai have organized sea bans.

Currently, localities are directing the fisheries sector and local authorities to coordinate with the Border Guard to organize information, count, and call on ships operating at sea to know the storm's developments so they can proactively move to avoid it.

Storm No. 5 is level 12 and is expected to get stronger.

According to the report of the Civil Defense Command of the Ministry of Construction , the area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang currently has 359 ships and inland waterway vehicles in operation. Of which, Thanh Hoa has 135 ships; Nghe An has 42 ships; Ha Tinh has 65 ships; Quang Tri and Hue have 59 ships: Da Nang has 58 ships.

In addition, the total aquaculture area in coastal provinces and cities from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri is 58,611 hectares, with about 5,745 cages of all kinds and 384 aquaculture watchtowers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a diplomatic note to the Chinese and Philippine Embassies in Vietnam requesting assistance for Vietnamese fishermen and boats to take shelter from the storm.

In response to the dangerous developments of storm No. 5 (storm Kajiki), on August 23, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control coordinated with Zalo Vietnam to send 18 million text messages instructing on how to respond to storm No. 5 and warning of floods and rains to people in coastal areas from Quang Ninh to Gia Lai.
