Planting a tree is also a "fast food" style.

(Baohatinh.vn) - In the industrial age, with little time, people prefer fast food because it is convenient, does not require a process, and is effective immediately. Planting a tree, for a long time, has also been influenced by the "fast food" mentality!

From urban areas to rural villages, it's not difficult for you and me to see newly planted trees that, in just a short time, look tall and lush, as if they had been growing there for decades.

A few years ago, my neighbor decided to spend over 10 million VND to plant a tree with a diameter of nearly 40cm. He was so impressed with the first one that he bought a second one. Two trees stood on either side of his gate, looking majestic and imposing. Soon after, he was overjoyed as every guest who visited praised the trees' grandeur and classic style. In his and his wife's eyes, their nearly 4 billion VND house was truly beautiful and perfect, harmonious inside and out, with luxurious interior design and a cool, airy atmosphere.

It's not hard to see the image of my neighbor next door to my brothers, sisters, and aunts. The widespread practice of planting trees like that is so familiar and accepted by everyone, much like buying fast food at stalls when hungry, without needing to prepare it because it's time-consuming. The convenience of this "fast-food" tree planting trend has even conquered the process of constructing street greening projects. For new house gardens, the tree needs to grow big and beautiful immediately. The same applies to street greening projects; the tree needs to be "ancient" and imposing quickly to rapidly create a green, shady streetscape.

It's not difficult to find such tree planting projects in urban centers. These fast-growing trees are truly useful, captivating the eye from the moment they're planted in the hole.

Then, the harsh reality of unexpected challenges arrived. Typhoons No. 5 and No. 10 caused countless fast-growing trees to fall like straw, from private trees to street trees. Many trees were uprooted, their branches protruding from the ground like upside-down onions.

Many tree stumps were bare, smooth and shiny, with no roots visible through the bark. The planting holes, therefore, were also perfectly round, full of water, and looked remarkably regular! It wasn't difficult to see the roots of many trees that hadn't yet penetrated deep into the soil. And rightly so! Given their age and size, having only recently been planted, they hadn't yet adapted to the soil and therefore hadn't had time to develop their roots.

My neighbor's wall collapsed, and his gate broke in half. After the storm, I looked at his house with a heavy heart. The two trees that used to be his pride were now a disaster, feeling like they were worthless. The streets where I go to work every day were littered with fallen trees, their stumps exposed. Many large, newly planted trees had fallen, dragging down the iron stakes that had been holding them in place.

Among those trees, some have recently been tilted due to the effects of the first cold winds of the season. Observation reveals that some trees had not yet been fully replanted and were only temporarily replanted when the wind arrived. Larger trees with unstable roots are easily swayed by the wind.

If you uproot a tree and replant it, it will still be green, but it clearly won't have strong roots. A tree that is planted from a young age, nurtured, and withstands the challenges of sun, rain, and temperature will firmly anchor itself in the soil. The growth of a tree where it takes root is "real growth," not the superficial, dependent growth of a tree that is uprooted and replanted.

The story of the tree is similar to the story of life! Don't be impatient and expect immediate results. Results are a process. Raising children, academic scores, personnel matters... here and there, we still glimpse the characteristics of "quick fixes."
