New opportunities
Ngo Huu Dat, Deputy Secretary of the Thanh Thuy Ward Youth Union, is one of them. Having been involved with TikTok and then Facebook for nearly four years, he says that initially he only wanted to introduce local products to more people. But then, those short videos opened up another opportunity.
“Thanks to social media, familiar Hue dishes have become known to more customers, who are now seeking them out. At one point, from videos introducing pressed cakes, sesame candy, or various types of fish sauce, I sold up to 200 orders a day. That's when I realized that by making the most of the features and effectiveness of social media, even a phone used correctly can become an effective ‘storefront’,” he said.
Dat said that when TikTok adjusted its policies, reaching viewers became much more difficult. Therefore, he is currently trying to operate on the TikTok platform while also building a Facebook page to promote local culture. At the same time, he is generating income from the views and interactions of his viewers.
These days, Mr. Dat is promoting the poetic beauty of the lotus pond near the tiled bridge (Thanh Thuy ward) on his Facebook and TikTok pages about Hue. Every photo and video he posts reflects the passion of a young person who loves his homeland. His efforts have paid off, as more and more tourists are coming to visit, take photos, and buy lotus flowers and seeds to take home.
The development of digital technology has opened up opportunities for anyone to become a content creator, promoting the image of their hometown and finding additional income from the familiar things around them. From showcasing cuisine, beautiful scenery, and traditional crafts to documenting everyday life in rural areas, each person chooses their own unique way of telling a story.
Telling the story of our homeland through digital content.
Focusing on the lives of the residents of My Loi (Vinh Loc commune), Huynh Dung, the owner of the Facebook page "My Hometown My Loi, Thua Thien Hue," has earned a considerable income from sharing stories of everyday life in his hometown. The figures he shared surprised many. In May 2026 alone, his posts and videos on his Facebook page garnered 4.7 million views and over 185,000 interactions, bringing in over $900 USD. The content he shares is incredibly simple: everyday meals in Vinh Loc, an exciting fishing trip, or the bustling atmosphere of a rural market by the lagoon...
However, creating content isn't always easy. Maintaining a consistent content stream, investing in filming and editing equipment, adapting to constantly changing algorithms, and competing with countless other content on social media requires considerable perseverance.
According to Dung's experience, if you want a post to have a good chance of reaching viewers, you should post it between 4 and 6 AM. If that's not possible, creators should choose a time before 8 AM or around 12-1 PM. "The best quality post of the day should be published first, rather than posting based on emotion. Besides that, there are many other 'secrets' that content creators in Hue like us often share to improve together," Dung said.
With perseverance and love for their homeland, many young people in Hue regularly record everyday stories around them. And that's when the "seeds" they silently sow begin to sprout.
