Across forums and travel groups, one of the travel trends that young Vietnamese people are interested in today is experiential travel combined with environmental protection.

With the desire to spread positive awareness and respect for nature at destinations to promote green tourism and sustainable development, young people take action and call on the community to limit the use of disposable plastic products, plant more trees for destinations...

Today's Gen Z generation is gradually proving themselves to be "green travelers" by often showing environmentally friendly behavior during their travel, starting from bringing items such as personal water bottles, spoons, stainless steel straws... to choosing "plastic-free" tourist destinations.

It can be seen that green tourism is the choice of many young travel enthusiasts, with the goal of minimizing plastic waste and being more responsible during the trip. Many young people even choose to express their love for nature by combining tourism with planting trees, such as Vo Minh Tan (Hy Du Ky) and Dang Duc Tuan (Han Vietnam) who had a 100-day, 10,000 km cross-country trip through 63 provinces and cities to carry out the A little Vietnam project.

The result of their trip across Vietnam was that more than 500 trees were planted along the way. With the desire to spread "kind tourism" among young people, Tan and Tuan called for more volunteers to join this journey. After that, the group of young people planted more than 1,000 pine trees along National Highway 24 from Kon Tum to Quang Ngai and continued the project at the end of 2023 with a trip to Mang Den (Kon Tum province).

Stemming from their passion for travel and sense of responsibility for the environment, Tan and Tuan have long cherished a project that contributes to spreading the message of green living to the community. After much deliberation, the two guys decided to implement a dual model - tourism combined with tree planting. Because Tan and Tuan believe that the work is simple but has great meaning, symbolizing the journey of nurturing the future.

Planting trees is sustainable, starting with just a few small trees, and over time can cover large areas of land. The important thing is, from small actions will "contribute to the wind" to create a forest and contribute to changing the community's positive awareness in protecting the environment.

However, nothing is easy. On their journey, there were times when Tan and Tuan could not find seedlings, planting locations and unfavorable weather, slippery roads, and even falls and scratches. However, the two members of A little Vietnam said they were still proud and felt they had grown more mature with each journey.

“Throughout the trip, Tan always kept in mind that he was doing something for the earth, for himself and for the people around him. That is why we always take tree planting seriously to balance everything and by all means complete our goals,” Tan shared.

GenZ spreads green tourism

The good news is that on their journey, Tan and Tuan always receive a lot of support from local people as well as young people following the A little Vietnam Project. The proof is that after traveling to all 63 provinces and cities to plant trees, A little Vietnam has implemented 2 more tree planting projects in Mang Den and has received many volunteers to register to participate.

“I hope that when volunteers participate in the project, they will receive the full message and love for nature that we want to convey, that is what A little Vietnam is aiming for,” Tuan shared.

When returning to the old locations, seeing with their own eyes the "children" growing taller and greener day by day, for Tan and Tuan it was an "indescribable feeling", it was also a source of inspiration for the young people to continue to nurture new seedlings and wait for better results.

Tuan said that the most "profitable" thing from the past journey was the smiles and sparkling eyes of the volunteers every time they successfully planted a seedling in the ground, along with the affection of the people in the places A little Vietnam visited.

The two young men revealed that in 2024 they will continue to make new trips, but this time focusing on greening in specific localities as well as carrying out longer-term activities, not only planting trees but also visiting and maintaining previously planted trees.

Not only A little Vietnam, in recent years, as messages about climate change and environmental pollution have been increasingly spread, young people are increasingly aware of the negative impacts and influences that humans have on nature. Gen Z has begun to look towards trips that can bring better values to the environment and the community.

As students majoring in Environment and Sustainable Development at the National Economics University, they are not only travel enthusiasts but also very interested in the issue of how to develop Vietnam’s economy while protecting the environment. That is the reason why they chose to participate in the campaign “Live green with Gen G” organized by Panasonic Corporation.

“Our intention when participating in the contest was to contribute a little effort to the project, contributing to protecting the environment and developing sustainable tourism in Vietnam, strongly spreading this spirit to the community,” said Van Anh, a contestant participating in the campaign.

Obviously, green tourism or the trend of protecting the environment when traveling has become the awareness of Vietnamese youth. In particular, the young people themselves have been very active in communicating and spreading this trend. Not only do they actively participate in journeys that both experience and green the destination, but they also call on the tourism community to be more aware and responsible, limiting the negative impact of tourism activities on the natural environment. And we have the right to hope that "the world will change" from a young generation with such positive awareness, thinking and action./.
