Da Lat will officially join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of music in 2023. To maintain and promote the title after the arrangement of two-level local government from July 1, 2025, Lam Dong province needs to have a plan to implement the commitments of a creative city of music.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, Da Lat joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network of Music has affirmed the city's capacity and position in the field of music among Vietnam, the region and the world. This creates a favorable environment to attract investment and business for the cultural industry. At the same time, step by step concretize Directive No. 30-CT/TTg, dated August 29, 2024 of the Prime Minister on the development of Vietnam's cultural industries; stimulate urban regeneration, developeducational programs and cultural events associated with the vision of sustainable development; build Da Lat into a high-quality tourist destination of cultural and artistic creative space.

To ensure the continuous implementation of commitments with sustainable financial resources and mobilize the participation of administrative units of the new Lam Dong province, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed that the Provincial People's Committee transfer the tasks of implementing the UNESCO creative city of music to the Department. "This plan received support from the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The Department also suggested that after the organization and administrative units are stabilized, the province should establish an executive board consisting of relevant members to receive the tasks and commitments of the UNESCO creative city", said Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc.

After being recognized by UNESCO, Da Lat has coordinated and implemented many programs and initiatives according to its commitment when joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The city built and operated the Da Lat Creative Music City website (dalatcreativecity.com), organized delegations to participate in events in the network organized by UNESCO; coordinated with departments and branches to organize or coordinate the organization of large-scale music programs and events. Including the 130th anniversary of Da Lat's formation and development, Da Lat music festival 2024-Sweet Love, Da Lat best dance crew (2023, 2024, 2025), Music night run, Da Lat color fun festival 2024 music night, The Big Day with artists from Scotland...

Notably, the Dalat Spring Concert with the participation of world music legends such as Boney M, Liz Mitchell, Joy Band and Samantha Fox attracted tens of thousands of audiences. “Dalat Spring Concert is not only an art program, but also creates a special mark for Dalat on the international music map, fulfilling its commitment to UNESCO”, Mr. Dang Quang Tu, Secretary of Lam Vien Ward Party Committee, former Chairman of Da Lat City People's Committee, shared.

Currently, Da Lat has more than 40 music spaces and creative spaces for artists such as Madame show, Vietnam Amazing show, Afternoon music program, 05 AM, art performance space at Than Tho lake, Pho Ben Doi, May Lang Thang, Lululola, Stop and Go Art Space... with many famous domestic and international artists and singers performing. These spaces have become "meeting places" for many tourists when coming to the dreamland.

The city coordinated to organize many activities, such as the international conference on Da Lat developing green tourism and cultural industry, the consultation seminar on "Da Lat city plan to implement commitments to join the UNESCO creative cities network, music field in the period 2025-2027"; launching the Da Lat art tourism map... These are also the contents in implementing the commitment with UNESCO when Da Lat officially joins the creative cities network.

Dalat has a cool climate all year round, fresh air and beautiful natural scenery. These core values ​​create artistic creativity. To date, there are about 300 songs written about Dalat.

According to Jonathan Wallace Baker, Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Vietnam, Da Lat becoming a creative music city marks an important milestone for the city and Vietnam. This is an opportunity, responsibility and commitment to promote creativity, strengthen cultural industries and make music a driving force for sustainable urban development. “Da Lat is establishing a roadmap to implement comprehensive and sustainable commitments, so it is necessary to take advantage of creativity and music for urban and economic development. Strengthen public-private partnerships to create a favorable environment for cultural industries; mobilize the participation of youth, apply digital transformation in music to innovate and reach the world,” Mr. Baker suggested.

To maintain the title of Creative Music City for the period 2025-2027, Da Lat continues to implement its commitments to UNESCO. The city implements local-level initiatives, such as the music heritage of the future; music training and linkage programs; building and strengthening the city's network of cultural and creative spaces and activities to encourage music creation. At the same time, it implements three international-level initiatives, including the Southeast Asian Gong Harmony Program, the Sound of the Great Forest, and the Lang Biang International Music Festival.
