Establishing a strong position through quality training.
On June 25, 1956, by decision of the Ministry of Heavy Industry, the Intermediate Technical School II – the predecessor of Viet Tri Industrial University – was officially established. This was a period of great hardship for the country, with limited infrastructure and a small number of staff and teachers. However, the school quickly identified its mission: to train technical human resources to serve the chemical industry – a field playing a crucial role in the post-war recovery and development of the country. It is from this challenging foundation that the school's tradition of unity, perseverance, and aspiration for progress has been formed and nurtured over many generations.
Throughout its development, the school has undergone several name changes and upgrades to adapt to practical needs. From the Chemical Vocational School (1962), the Chemical High School (1967) to the Chemical College (1997), each milestone marks a new stage of growth in scale, training quality, and the school's standing. On January 20, 2011, the Prime Minister signed a decision to upgrade the Chemical College to Viet Tri Industrial University, opening a new phase of development with a greater stature and mission within the Vietnamese higher education system.
Viet Tri Industrial University has gradually developed into a multidisciplinary higher education institution. Currently, the university offers 20 undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various fields such as engineering, technology, economics , languages, and basic sciences. Programs such as Chemical Engineering Technology, Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry), Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Marketing, Accounting, and English, Chinese, and Korean languages demonstrate a focus on expanding training to meet the practical needs of the labor market and the development trends of the digital economy, green transformation, and international integration.
Recognizing quality as the core foundation for sustainable development, the university actively implements quality assurance and accreditation in education. In 2018, the university was awarded a Certificate of Accreditation for Higher Education Institutions; and in 2024, it achieved accreditation for higher education institutions in the second cycle, 2024-2029. Not only at the institutional level, but over 80% of the university's training programs have been accredited and recognized as meeting quality standards. Notably, three training programs have achieved UPM international quality benchmarking at levels 4-star and 4-star plus, recognized in many countries and international universities, marking a significant step forward in the journey of regional and global educational integration.
Along with the innovation of training programs, the school's faculty and staff have also continuously grown stronger. Many lecturers with doctoral and associate professorial degrees, trained at prestigious institutions both domestically and internationally, have become the core force in teaching and scientific research. Simultaneously, the system of lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, electronic libraries, dormitories, and other facilities serving students has been invested in comprehensively and modernly. These conditions create an increasingly favorable learning and research environment, helping students access a training model closely linked to practice and practical application. The current training scale of the school reaches over 5,000 students. The rate of students finding employment relevant to their major within 12 months of graduation reaches 100%, demonstrating the increasing recognition of the school's prestige and quality of training by society and businesses.
Innovation for integration and development
Lecturers guide students in Mechanical Engineering Technology through practical exercises using equipment models, linking theoretical training with professional skills and practical production experience.
One of the hallmarks of Viet Tri Industrial University is its training model closely linked with businesses. The university has signed cooperation agreements with hundreds of domestic and foreign-invested enterprises to jointly develop training programs, organize internships, recruit students, and develop their professional skills. Through this network of partnerships, the university regularly updates its curriculum to reflect the actual needs of the labor market, adjusting training content to be more application-oriented, enhancing practical skills, and improving students' career adaptability.
In the field of scientific research, the faculty annually leads and participates in numerous scientific research projects at various levels, publishing many articles in domestic and international specialized journals. Many research results have been effectively applied to practical production and life, especially in the fields of chemistry, materials, mechanics, electricity, and environment. The scientific research movement among students has also developed strongly with many achievements in national academic competitions such as the National Chemistry Olympiad and the Student Intelligent Technology competitions.
In the context of educational globalization, Viet Tri Industrial University places special emphasis on expanding international cooperation. The university has established cooperative relationships with numerous universities, research institutes, and educational organizations in Japan, South Korea, Russia, Belarus, China, and many other countries. These cooperative activities are diverse, ranging from academic exchanges and scientific research to joint training programs, student exchanges, and internships abroad. Each year, many lecturers are sent abroad for study and research; many students have the opportunity to intern and experience international work environments. This forms a crucial foundation for improving professional skills, foreign language proficiency, vocational skills, and the ability to integrate into the global job market.
Furthermore, the school has left a strong mark through its community service activities. Programs such as blood donation drives, support for disadvantaged communities, rural development initiatives, environmental protection, care for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and support for those who have contributed to the revolution are regularly maintained, demonstrating the social responsibility and humanitarian values that the school always strives for. These activities have contributed to building a positive image of an educational institution that is not only strong in academics but also rich in a spirit of sharing and commitment to the community and society.
With its significant contributions throughout its development, Viet Tri Industrial University has been honored by the Party and State with many prestigious awards such as the First, Second, and Third Class Independence Orders; the First, Second, and Third Class Labor Orders, along with numerous Emulation Flags and Certificates of Merit from the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the People's Committee of Phu Tho province.
Entering a new phase of development, Viet Tri Industrial University clearly defines its vision to become a multidisciplinary, application-oriented university with quality and prestige on par with advanced universities in the country and the region. With a glorious 70-year tradition and a strong spirit of innovation, the university continues to affirm its role and position and confidently move forward on its journey of integration and development, making a significant contribution to training high-quality human resources for the country.
