In recent years, camping tourism has become increasingly popular, especially on weekends, holidays, and during the summer. However, alongside the desire for experiences and relaxation amidst nature, maintaining environmental hygiene and protecting the landscape at campsites is becoming a matter of concern.
With its wide alluvial plain along the Ky Cung River, spacious surroundings, and close-to-nature scenery, the riverside grassy area in Pac Lang village, Diem He commune, has become an ideal location for people to camp, have picnics, play, and relax.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh, Head of the Economic Department of Diem He Commune, said: "During weekends and holidays, the camping spot in the Ky Cung river alluvial plain in Pac Lang village attracts a large number of locals and tourists. Just during the holidays of March 10th (lunar calendar) and April 30th - May 1st this year, the camping spot attracted over 2,000 visitors. To ensure environmental sanitation, the department coordinates with relevant units to raise awareness and remind locals and tourists to proactively collect waste after camping; requiring businesses and service providers in the camping area to provide trash bins and regularly collect and dispose of waste. At the same time, we mobilize youth union members and local people to participate in cleaning up, contributing to maintaining a green, clean, and beautiful landscape."
Similar to the camping site in Diem He commune, the community tourism destination in Huu Lien commune also attracts many tourists for sightseeing and experiences. Mr. Hoang Thanh Hieu, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Huu Lien commune, said: On average, the commune attracts over 60,000 tourists annually. With such a large number of visitors, the department has advised the People's Committee of the commune to require tourism service businesses, especially camping tourism businesses, to collect waste in the experience areas; and to raise awareness among tourists about preserving the natural landscape… In particular, the commune government coordinates with relevant units to inspect issues related to environmental sanitation and food safety… at camping sites and homestays. This contributes to building the image of a green and friendly tourist destination.
Not only in the two communes mentioned above, but also in other communes and wards throughout the province, there are many camping tourist destinations that attract locals and tourists, such as: Phai Danh Lake in Binh Gia commune; the area along the Ky Cung River in Khanh Khe commune; and the Mau Son mountain area in Mau Son commune…
Camping and organizing meals generate various types of waste. If not collected and processed promptly, this can easily lead to environmental pollution and negatively impact the natural landscape.
Camping is a type of outdoor tourism. Locals and tourists set up tents, rest, eat, and live in areas close to nature such as forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, and grasslands. |
As a passionate camping traveler, Ms. Vu Thu Thao (Quang Ninh province) said: "When visiting camping spots in Lang Son , I noticed that many places have designated areas for garbage collection and signs reminding people to maintain environmental hygiene. After each camping trip, I always proactively collect garbage and clean up the campsite to preserve the overall landscape."
Mr. Trieu Duc Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: To develop tourism in a sustainable direction, in the coming time, the department will coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and relevant units to review camping tourist destinations in the province; strengthen inspection, supervision, and strictly handle cases of violations. At the same time, the department requests the People's Committees of communes and wards to actively propagate and raise awareness among people and tourists in maintaining environmental hygiene; proactively arrange waste collection points and collect and process waste in the designated places.
Maintaining a green, clean, and beautiful environment at camping destinations not only contributes to enhancing the quality of the tourist experience but is also a crucial solution for developing ecotourism and community-based tourism in a sustainable direction. Therefore, along with the involvement of the government and relevant agencies, each citizen and tourist also needs to raise awareness and form habits of civilized and environmentally friendly tourism.
