New opportunities
During a meeting with the delegation from the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Ho Chi Minh City (April 24th), the city's Tourism Association and the business community discussed the possibility of cooperation in bringing Belarusian tourists to Hue.
Opportunities for cooperation will be further expanded with the introduction of direct flights from Minsk, the capital of Belarus, to Da Nang starting in May 2026. Mr. Alexander Dmitrievich Sidoruk, Consul General of the Republic of Belarus in Ho Chi Minh City, stated that the direct flights from Minsk to Da Nang will be charter flights, with one flight expected every 10-11 days. This will also be the third route connecting Belarus with Vietnamese destinations, after Phu Quoc and Khanh Hoa.
The direct flight from Minsk to Da Nang not only connects Belarusian tourists to the city on the Han River but also opens up opportunities to boost tourism for localities, especially Hue, given the close geographical distance between the two centrally-governed cities of Vietnam, making it convenient to bring tourists to Hue.
According to Mr. Dinh Manh Thang, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association and President of the Hue City Tourism Association, a noteworthy point is that Belarusian tourists travel to many countries, spend a lot of money, and stay for extended periods (10-15 days). In particular, Belarusian tourists enjoy the beach and savor the unique cuisine of different regions, and are interested in learning about the culture and heritage of countries around the world. These are favorable points that align with the tourism potential and strengths of localities in Vietnam, including Hue.
Regarding the demand for Belarusian tourists visiting Vietnam, in Khanh Hoa province, statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism show that Khanh Hoa welcomed 3,244 Belarusian tourists in 2024. This number is expected to increase sharply to 8,861 (an increase of approximately 173%) in 2025, and in just the first two months of 2026, Khanh Hoa has already welcomed 2,146 Belarusian tourists. It is predicted that after the launch of the flight route from Minsk (Belarus) to Khanh Hoa by Belavia Belarusian Airlines (March 20th), the number of Belarusian tourists will increase even further.
A promising trend is the strengthening of regional linkages and connections between localities in tourism development, and tourists are increasingly seeking to experience multiple places. Therefore, establishing a direct flight route from Minsk, the capital of Belarus, to Da Nang opens up opportunities for Hue, along the Central Vietnam heritage route that many tourists aspire to explore.
There is still a lot of work to be done.
Belarusian tourists are high-spending and tend to stay longer, making them a key market segment that Hue tourism is targeting.

During a courtesy meeting with the delegation from the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Ho Chi Minh City, led by Consul General Alexander Sidoruk, on the afternoon of April 23rd, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Hue City Party Committee, and Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, shared that cooperation in investment, trade, and tourism between Hue City and Belarusian partners still has much untapped potential. The head of the Hue City People's Committee also requested the Belarusian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to continue to pay attention to and support the connection and promotion of cooperation between the two sides, including in the field of tourism; to enhance the promotion of Hue's image to the people of Belarus; to support the organization of survey delegations; to connect businesses; and to expand substantive and effective cooperation in the future.
According to Mr. Alexander Dmitrievich Sidoruk, Consul General of the Republic of Belarus in Ho Chi Minh City, the Consulate General will discuss with Belarusian travel agencies to promote and foster cooperation, with the aim of making Hue a preferred choice for many Belarusian tourists.
Although a connection has been established, Hue still has much work to do to attract Belarusian tourists. Currently, information about Hue as a destination for Belarusian tourists remains vague, while promotional activities targeting this market are lacking. The top priority is to make Hue known to travel agencies and tourists from this country.
Mr. Do Ngoc Co, Chairman of the Hue City Tourism Association, believes that developing products suitable for the Belarusian market is essential and that travel businesses are ready. However, the first step is to effectively connect with the operators of flights from Belarus to Da Nang and travel agencies in Belarus. It is necessary to organize famtrip programs inviting airlines, tourism businesses, journalists, and inspirational figures from Belarus to Hue to survey and experience tourism products. Furthermore, Hue also needs to develop strategies to promote its image as a destination in Belarus.
From a professional perspective, the Tourism Association, its affiliated associations, and tourism and service businesses are connecting and will continue to connect with partner units to develop tourism packages that stimulate demand and are suitable for the Belarusian market, with high-quality services in transportation, sightseeing destinations, hotel accommodation, cuisine, and tourism experiences, meeting the needs of tourists.
