At 6 a.m., at the construction site of the Ia Pnôn Primary and Secondary Boarding School in Gia Lai province, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Le Van An, Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 38 (Division 2), soldiers were simultaneously installing scaffolding, assembling formwork, cutting steel, and transporting cement, sand, and gravel from the stockpile to the second and third floors of the buildings in preparation for pouring concrete.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Van An said: “For nearly a month now, it has rained heavily almost every afternoon. Therefore, all the newly built walls and newly poured concrete foundations have been carefully covered with tarpaulins and raincoats. To speed up the construction progress, we allow the soldiers to eat and rest right at the construction site at noon. Despite the difficult and inadequate living conditions, unfavorable weather and climate, and the large workload, the officers and soldiers always uphold high spirits, responsibility, and determination to excellently complete the assigned tasks...”

Militia soldiers from the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command participate in building a multi-level boarding school in the border area. |
Late in the afternoon, while inspecting the construction progress of the Ia Dom Primary and Secondary Boarding School in Gia Lai province, under incessant rain, Lieutenant Colonel Le Quan Son, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 2nd Division, encouraged the soldiers as they installed lighting for their night shift work: “Upholding the glorious tradition of ‘Trusted by superiors, loved by friends, cherished by the people. Once we go, we arrive; once we fight, we win.’ I urge you comrades to continue to uphold the spirit and responsibility, working in shifts of 3, 4 teams, and resolutely accelerating the construction progress so that the new school can be put into operation according to plan.” Then, turning to the officer in charge of the construction force from the 38th Regiment, he said: “You need to strengthen inspections and remind the soldiers to pay attention to ensuring safety, especially when moving at height, operating cutting and sawing machines, and connecting electricity; keep things neat and tidy as you go; the faster the work, the higher the quality and efficiency must be…”
In the mountainous communes of La Dêê, La Êê, A Vương, Tây Giang, and Đắk Pring ( Da Nang ), thanks to the support, assistance, and enthusiastic work ethic of hundreds of officers and soldiers from the Da Nang City Military Command, the 315th Division, the 574th Armored Brigade, and the 575th Communications Brigade, multi-level boarding schools have gradually taken shape. Pulling up his sleeve to reveal still swollen red spots, Corporal Y Khương Niê, a soldier from Company 4 (143rd Regiment, 315th Division), said: “To limit attacks from flies and leeches, whether working indoors or outdoors, we always remind each other to wear gloves and masks, but almost everyone has been bitten. We often jokingly say that this is the mark of this special field trip to help the people.”
Opportunities for change for the children of ethnic minorities.
Since the arrival of forces from the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command to support the local area in accelerating the school construction progress, the Women's Associations of Ia Rve and Ia Lop communes have regularly organized twice a week to make sticky rice cakes wrapped in thorny leaves, cook sweet soup, and provide water at the training ground, helping the soldiers and militia to escape the sweltering heat of June. Standing beside the newly concreted two-story building, Corporal Y Broi Lin Êban, a soldier from Company 2 (Defense Command of Area 3 - Ea Sup), said: “When we first arrived here to reinforce, this construction site was quite chaotic, with many items yet to be built. Each person had a task, and according to the unit commander's assignment, the various departments actively supported the construction unit and contractor to speed up the school construction.”

Mr. Vo Van Loi, Deputy Director of the Investment and Construction Management Board for Civil and Industrial Works of Dak Lak province, said that the unit is currently implementing three multi-level boarding school projects in the border area. These are all large-scale projects, built with comprehensive and modern facilities, with capital amounting to hundreds of billions of VND. Currently, the construction volume has reached over 75%, and the disbursement rate is approximately 58%. Despite facing numerous difficulties, with the reinforcement and support of forces from Military Region 5 and the Provincial Military Command, the construction unit is determined to complete the projects on schedule and ahead of schedule, ensuring that the schools can begin operation this September.
Traveling nearly 200 kilometers from Krông Á to the border to build a school, with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience gained after many years of working in the "cement, sand, welding, and plastering" trade, permanent militia soldier Bàn Văn Phú actively mentored and guided young officers and soldiers of Battalion 303 (Regiment 584), the Military Command of Ia Rvê commune, and the Military Command of Ia Lốp commune, helping them feel more confident when handling shovels and trowels and laying the first bricks. On the first day of deployment, only about 40% of the reinforced force from the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command knew construction trades; now, that number has almost doubled. Thanks to this, in addition to carrying loads, mixing mortar, and shoveling sand, the soldiers are always ready to assist when the masonry, electrical, carpentry, and welding teams need help.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thien Van, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Lak province, for border communes facing many difficulties such as Ia Lop and Ia Rve, investing in school construction is not simply about building infrastructure, but also about building trust, opening up learning opportunities, and opportunities for change for the children of ethnic minorities. The schools built today will be places to nurture the dreams of countless generations of students tomorrow; places to sow the seeds of knowledge, cultivate aspirations for advancement, contribute to creating human resources for the locality, and strengthen the "people's support"...
The leaders of Dak Lak province affirmed that, given the challenging terrain, the large volume of work, and the tight deadline, the proactive efforts of the Provincial Military Command in advising and coordinating the deployment of support forces for the construction clearly demonstrated the sense of responsibility and noble qualities of the soldiers of Uncle Ho's Army in the new era.
In the border regions and remote areas of the Fatherland, the spirit of "working twice as hard in one day" and the determination to "overcome the sun and rain to build schools" are vividly demonstrated by the officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Military Region 5 in their words and actions.
