Helping people escape poverty.

Implementing the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in the period 2021-2025, Binh Phu commune, Phu Ninh district, has made efforts to implement many synchronized solutions, creating an important "support system" to help poor households improve their lives and contribute to promoting socio -economic development.

Mushroom cultivation has long been thriving because it utilizes agricultural by-products such as rice straw after harvest, creating jobs for unemployed local workers and contributing to increased income for farmers. Recognizing the benefits of mushroom cultivation, and as part of Sub-project 1 - Project 4 of the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Phu Ninh district collaborated with the International Vocational Training School to open a training course on mushroom cultivation techniques for 35 trainees in Binh Phu commune, including poor, near-poor, and newly-escaped-poverty households, from the end of September to mid-November 2024.

During the course, students are equipped with knowledge about different types of mushrooms; mushroom cultivation and care techniques, harvesting procedures, and post-harvest hygiene and disinfection. It is expected that after each course, each student, with a mushroom cultivation area of ​​only 15-20m2, will be able to produce 20-40kg of mushrooms, yielding 4-6 harvests per year. “Besides increasing income and providing employment during the off-season, contributing to poverty reduction, mushroom cultivation also utilizes straw and creates a quantity of organic fertilizer for crops,” said Ms. Do Thi Mui (Zone 5, Binh Phu Commune), a student in the course.

In addition to mushroom cultivation classes, local authorities and organizations regularly coordinate with the District Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the District and Provincial Agricultural Extension Centers, etc., to open training courses, provide vocational training, and supply knowledge on livestock farming, crop cultivation, and the application of science and technology in production for farmers, supporting them with high-yield crop varieties.

Recognizing poverty reduction and improving people's living standards as a top priority, the Party Committee and local government of the commune regularly encourage and support people in promoting the application of scientific and technological advancements in production and business, and developing diverse occupations. Mechanisms and policies supporting poverty reduction from the central, provincial, and district levels have been implemented synchronously throughout the commune, especially those related to infrastructure investment and loans for production development, creating a fundamental foundation for poor and near-poor households to improve their lives.

Comrade Ha Ke Tai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Phu commune, said: "First, the commune assesses and surveys the support needs of poor and near-poor households, as well as categorizes poor households to develop appropriate and specific support policies for each family. At the same time, we effectively receive and utilize policies and resources from the State and society to act as a 'lever' to help people rise out of poverty sustainably."

In the first six months of 2024, the rate of regularly employed workers in the commune reached 97%, the rate of trained workers reached 76%, and 75 new jobs were created. The total number of poor households in the commune decreased to 67 (1.95%); near-poor households numbered 61 (1.78%). The commune People's Committee facilitated loans for residents from the District Social Bank, An Dao Credit Fund, etc., with a total outstanding loan balance of over 366 billion VND. Currently, there are 238 households in the commune engaged in production and business in various fields such as: carpentry, aluminum and glass, mechanics, welding, car and motorbike repair, restaurants, guesthouses, eateries, grocery stores, garment manufacturing, artificial sports fields, etc., bringing considerable income to the people.

Thanks to the synchronized implementation of various solutions, the material and spiritual lives of the people in Binh Phu commune have improved significantly, and the rural landscape is becoming increasingly vibrant.
