An Giang has over 300 investment projects in the tourism and service sector with a total registered capital of over 400,000 billion VND. This is considered an important foundation for upgrading infrastructure, diversifying products, and improving service quality, gradually making An Giang a famous destination on the tourism map of Vietnam and the region.
According to the Department of Tourism, in recent years, the local tourism industry has made significant progress. The system of tourism products is becoming increasingly diverse. What makes An Giang unique is its natural landscape, cultural depth, and local identity. However, An Giang's tourism still has many limitations that need to be overcome. The pace of development is not commensurate with its potential and existing advantages. The growth model still mainly relies on the number of tourists rather than the quality of service and added value...
According to tourism experts and businesses, to overcome these bottlenecks, An Giang needs to shift strongly from a quantitative growth mindset to one focused on improving the quality and efficiency of development. In particular, building new, distinctive tourism products that can extend the length of stay for tourists is an urgent requirement. Tourism product design expert Phan Yen Ly suggests that An Giang could study Japan's experience in spatial planning and seasonal product development. When each time of year offers unique events, activities, and experiences, tourists will be motivated to return multiple times instead of just visiting once and leaving. In addition, the locality could organize large-scale events such as island and sea festivals, cultural festivals, food festivals, or themed tourism weeks to increase attractiveness and stimulate tourist spending.
From the perspective of a travel business, Ms. Le Dinh Minh Thy - Director of Vietravel Can Tho - suggested: “An Giang needs to develop interconnected tourism routes that simultaneously exploit the advantages of both mountains and sea. Products such as “From That Son to the Pearl Sea”, “Spiritual Colors and the Sea and Sky”, “One Day, Two Countries - One Night on the Island”, or caravan routes connecting Long Xuyen, Chau Doc, Tinh Bien, Ha Tien, Rach Gia and Phu Quoc will contribute to creating new and attractive experiences for tourists.”
Simultaneously, promotional and marketing efforts need to be reformed towards a more professional, focused approach with clearly defined target markets. Participating in major international tourism fairs, expanding cooperation with travel agencies, online travel platforms, and international partners will help improve accessibility to foreign tourists and effectively promote the image of An Giang tourism to the world.
According to the Director of the Department of Tourism, Bui Quoc Thai, in the coming time, the local tourism industry will focus on investing resources to complete the transportation infrastructure connecting key tourist areas and destinations; promote digital transformation, build a smart tourism ecosystem, and develop specialized, high-end products associated with each locality's unique strengths. Along with that, the province will focus on training high-quality human resources, improving service quality and destination management capacity; and strengthening market research and forecasting to proactively develop products that meet the needs of domestic and international tourists.
An Giang also proposed that the central government consider extending the visa exemption period for international tourists visiting Phu Quoc to 180 days; and allow tourists to travel to other localities in the province and the Mekong Delta region without having to reapply for a visa. If approved, this would be a significant boost to increase the length of stay, raise spending levels, and enhance the competitiveness of An Giang tourism in the international market.
