Choosing a sunscreen with a very high SPF and applying it only once a day is not enough to protect your skin from the harmful effects of UV rays, especially during the hot summer months.

The higher the SPF, the better.

The SPF rating is determined based on the effectiveness of applying two milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin. 1 SPF is equivalent to 10 minutes. A sunscreen with SPF 15 will provide protection for approximately 150 minutes.

Some people believe that the higher the SPF of a sunscreen, the more effective it is at protecting the skin. However, this is not entirely accurate. In fact, many high-SPF products can have a thick texture, easily clogging pores or leaving a greasy feeling on the skin.

Experts suggest that you choose sunscreen based on the nature of your activities throughout the day.

For daily use, you should prioritize sunscreen with an SPF of 30-50. For beach trips or extensive outdoor activities, choose a higher SPF.

Applying too little cream

Using too little sunscreen is insufficient to form a protective barrier against UV rays. For the face, you need an amount equivalent to a coin or enough to fill the length of two fingers. In addition to your face, you should also apply sunscreen to your neck, chest, and arms.

If you feel that applying a sufficient amount of sunscreen once makes your skin feel suffocated and difficult to spread evenly, you can apply it twice, about 20 minutes apart, to allow the sunscreen to fully absorb into your skin.

Applying sunscreen once isn't enough to protect your skin all day, especially if you're active outdoors. Therefore, most experts recommend reapplying sunscreen every 3 hours to maximize protection.

If you work in an office or stay indoors with little exposure to sunlight, you can reduce the frequency of application, once in the morning and once in the early afternoon.

It is mandatory to remove makeup after applying sunscreen.

According to ETToday , if you don't wear makeup and only apply sunscreen, you don't necessarily need to use makeup remover; just thoroughly cleanse your face with a facial cleanser.

Afterward, you can soak a cotton pad with toner or lotion and gently wipe the skin's surface. This helps to further cleanse the skin while providing necessary moisture and balancing the pH.

However, if you need to reapply sunscreen multiple times a day, it's still best to remove it with a makeup remover to avoid leaving any cosmetic residue on your skin that could clog pores.
