Google's audio glasses are equipped with microphones, cameras, and small speakers, allowing users to make calls, listen to music, take photos, and chat with the Gemini AI assistant. Expected to be released later this year, Google's new glasses will compete directly with Meta – the company currently dominating the market with its Ray-Ban smart glasses, which have sold at least 7 million units.
At Google's annual I/O developer conference, the company unveiled two eyewear collections: one in collaboration with the American eyewear brand Warby Parker and another from the Korean designer Gentle Monster. Meanwhile, Samsung handled the technology development, and the glasses will be compatible with both Android and iOS operating systems.
For Google, this is a long-awaited return to a field that once saw one of the company's most notable failures: the Google Glass project launched in 2013. The product, which included a camera, was quickly discontinued after a wave of criticism regarding privacy concerns and the risk of user surveillance.
Google has not yet announced a specific release date or price for the product.
