Authorities are stepping up inspections of businesses to detect counterfeit products and violations of intellectual property rights.
In reality, effective intellectual property (IP) protection encourages research and technological development, improves product quality, and builds product reputation. Furthermore, good protection contributes to higher product prices and limits violations such as unauthorized exploitation of patented technologies, counterfeiting, and other infringements. In the long term, a strong IP system will have a positive impact on technological development and healthy business practices, playing a positive role in economic development. Given this role, significance, and importance, over the years, relevant agencies and sectors, especially the Department of Science and Technology, have continuously improved state management in this field across all activities, including: disseminating knowledge and laws on IP; advising and guiding the registration, establishment, and protection of IP rights; Strengthening the enforcement of intellectual property rights aims to curb trademark infringement, counterfeit goods, and pirated products.
These activities have yielded positive results, contributing to a transformation in intellectual property activities, helping people and businesses raise awareness of industrial property rights, and resolving issues related to intellectual property in competition. Statistics from the Department of Science and Technology show that in 2025, the province had 5 patent and utility model applications; 5 industrial design protection applications; and 745 trademark registration applications. There were 2 patent and utility model protection certificates; 7 industrial design protection certificates; and 461 trademark protection certificates. In the first quarter of 2026, the entire province guided 30 organizations and individuals in registering trademarks and transferring trademark usage rights; and 90 organizations and individuals registered for intellectual property protection...
However, intellectual property activities in the province still face many difficulties that need to be addressed. Notably, the procedures for patent registration and protection are still complex; the examination time is lengthy; and the cost of establishing rights is relatively high. Many products, even after being granted protection certificates, have not yet been exploited for their practical value in production and business activities. In particular, intellectual property infringement continues to occur, especially the production of counterfeit and pirated goods. Recent statistics from relevant authorities show that in the first five months of 2026, the province detected and handled 114 cases, including 112 administrative cases; 2 criminal cases; and 118 individuals. The total amount of fines imposed was 1.268 billion VND. The value of infringing goods amounted to 649.296 million VND... Notably, in implementing Prime Minister 's Directive No. 38/CD-TTg dated May 5, 2026, on focusing on decisively implementing solutions to combat, prevent, and handle intellectual property rights infringement, from May 7, 2026, to May 30, 2026, the entire province detected and penalized 31 establishments involved in intellectual property rights infringement, a 443% increase in the number of violations compared to the same period in 2025. The violations mainly involved industrial property rights infringements on products such as shoes, sandals, clothing, and many other consumer goods bearing famous brands such as NIKE, Adidas, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, etc., showing signs of counterfeiting protected trademarks.
According to Mr. Tran Van Thang, Head of the Specialized Management and Intellectual Property Department of the Department of Science and Technology, a strong intellectual property system is always a goal in the process of sustainable development. Therefore, the task set for relevant agencies, Party committees, and authorities in the coming time is to continue promoting propaganda, training, and raising awareness and capacity regarding intellectual property for organizations and individuals; supporting the establishment, management, exploitation, and development of intellectual property assets. Along with that, focus on strengthening the fight against, prevention, and handling of intellectual property rights violations as required by Prime Minister's Directive No. 38/CD-TTg dated May 5, 2026, contributing to protecting intellectual property rights, creating a transparent and healthy investment and business environment, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of honest businesses and consumers. At the same time, it is important to raise consumer awareness in the fight against counterfeit goods, imitation products, and goods infringing intellectual property rights to protect health and property, and contribute to a healthier market and promote socio-economic development.
