Reputable individuals among the ethnic minority communities in the province are involved in numerous charitable activities and contribute to the development of their homeland. For the Khmer people, the image of Buddhist monks always at the forefront of caring for the material and spiritual well-being of the community has long been familiar. Recognizing the housing difficulties faced by the Khmer people in the region, Venerable Danh Dung – Abbot of Dong Tranh Pagoda in Vinh Binh commune – mobilized benefactors to build over 100 houses, each costing between 30 and 50 million VND, helping them to settle down and make a living.
Mrs. Thi Phai's family, residing in Dong Tranh hamlet, had no land and had to work as laborers to make a living. The dream of owning a decent house was a distant one. Seeing Mrs. Phai's difficult circumstances, Venerable Danh Dung raised 40 million VND to build a house for her family. On the day they moved into their new home, Mrs. Phai tearfully shared: "My family will always be grateful for the help of Venerable Danh Dung. Without his kindness, my family wouldn't know when we would have been able to have a new house."
In addition to campaigning for house construction, at the end of 2024, a 5.3m wide, 2.3km long road connecting Hiep Hoa and Dong Tranh hamlets was expanded, contributing to local economic development. The road expansion affected many households, with some demanding high compensation for land clearance. Using his prestige, Venerable Danh Dung, along with the local authorities, went to each household to persuade them, explaining the benefits of the project and highlighting that the residents would be the biggest beneficiaries. As a result, the people agreed and handed over their land to the construction unit, completing the project on schedule.
A respected figure, Mr. Tran Van Dong, residing in Cai Nhum hamlet, Vinh Phong commune, serves as an "extended arm" between the Party and the State and the people. Locally, Mr. Dong takes the lead in implementing various movements, especially in advocating for the abolition of outdated customs, extravagant wedding and funeral practices, and replacing them with more civilized methods and activities while still preserving the cultural identity of the Khmer people. His family's economy has improved significantly through rice farming, shrimp farming, and civet breeding. Mr. Dong actively shares his experience, helping many households in the hamlet escape poverty and achieve stable lives.
During the complex period of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Dong mobilized tons of rice and essential supplies to support the people in overcoming difficulties. Deputy Head of Cai Nhum Hamlet, Thai Van Tu, commented that Mr. Dong is a reputable person; people listen to him, trust him, and follow his advice. In his work of propaganda and mobilization in the locality, Mr. Dong acts as a bridge between the Party, the State, and the people; through him, people have more faith in the Party and the State and gain more strength to strive forward.
In Giang Thanh commune, a border area with a large Khmer population, Mr. Danh Hung plays a crucial role in sustainable poverty reduction. He actively mobilizes funds for housing construction and provides livelihood support to disadvantaged households, giving them the motivation to improve their lives. Previously, the life of Mr. Tien Soc's family, residing in Tra Phot hamlet, was precarious. Mr. Hung mobilized funds to build a house and provided them with breeding cattle. “With stable housing, I can still work as a laborer and care for the cattle, helping my family have a stable income and escape poverty in 2024. My family is grateful to the local government and Mr. Hung. I will continue to strive harder to further develop my family's economy,” said Mr. Tien Soc.
| According to the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, after the merger, the province has nearly 500 exemplary and influential individuals. These are all shining examples who actively contribute to and spread emulation movements for socio-economic development and poverty reduction, helping to transform the rural landscape and make it increasingly prosperous. |
