Besides his scientific research career with many lifetime achievements, genius Albert Einstein also attracted many people's attention to his personal life. His life was closely associated with two beauties, Mileva Maric and Elsa Lowenthal.

Born in 1875 in Titel, Serbia, Mileva Maric was the first wife of physicist Albert Einstein. The couple met while studying at the Zurich Polytechnic Institute (the predecessor of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, or ETH). The two corresponded frequently while Maric spent a semester studying in Heidelberg, Germany.

Einstein nicknamed Maric "Dollie" and urged her to return soon. After Maric returned to Switzerland, the two officially became lovers.

Maric's family supported the relationship, but Einstein's parents objected. They said Maric was four years older than Einstein, was religious, and came from a different culture.

Maric and Einstein remained together, however. In early 1902, she gave birth to a daughter at her parents' home in Serbia, whom she named Lieserl. Some stories say that Lieserl was adopted by another family. The last news of Lieserl was in 1903, when it was reported that she had contracted scarlet fever.

Maric and Einstein married in Bern, Switzerland in 1903. A year later, they welcomed their son Hans Albert. In 1910, the Einstein family grew with the birth of their son Eduard.

In 1914, Einstein went to work in Berlin, and his wife and children followed him. However, Maric and her children soon returned to Switzerland. In 1916, Einstein asked for a divorce, and the divorce became official three years later.

The reason for the breakdown of this marriage is believed by some to be that Einstein fell in love with his distant cousin Elsa Lowenthal. The two met and became close around 1912. Like Einstein, Elsa had been married and divorced.

Elsa was considered Einstein's assistant and trusted companion in his career and life. The two married on June 2, 1919.

After getting married, Elsa took care of and accompanied her husband in scientific research as well as traveling to many places around the world . In 1993, Elsa and her husband decided to stay in the US. On December 20, 1936, she passed away in her house in Princeton. After his wife died, Einstein did not remarry. In 1955, Einstein passed away.
