(NLĐO) - Ba Hom Bridge and Duong Quang Ham road, phase 1, have officially opened to traffic, helping to reduce congestion and improve transportation.
Two major projects in Binh Tan and Go Vap districts, including Ba Hom Bridge and phase 1 of Duong Quang Ham road, have officially opened to traffic, marking an important step in improving urban transportation in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Ba Hom Bridge officially completed its construction on the morning of January 27th.
According to observations on the morning of January 27th (28th day of the Lunar New Year), the construction of the Ba Hom Bridge has been completed, allowing vehicles to circulate since the afternoon of January 26th. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Construction Project Management Board (Transportation Board), this is a key project to address traffic congestion in the western gateway area of the city, forming a traffic axis between National Highway 1 and the city center . The Ba Hom Bridge is located on Provincial Road 10, connecting National Highway 1, the Western Bus Station, and industrial zones.
The project has a total investment of 374 billion VND, including 142 billion VND for construction and 183 billion VND for compensation, resettlement, and relocation of technical infrastructure, aiming to replace the old, dilapidated bridge. The bridge has a total length of 425 m, including a 93 m long bridge section with a 24.5 m wide cross-section accommodating 4 lanes, and a 332 m long approach road with a 40 m wide cross-section. The project also includes a concrete embankment system, drainage, landscaping, lighting, and integrated traffic management to serve transportation needs, reduce congestion during peak hours, and improve traffic safety.
In Go Vap district, the project to expand and upgrade Duong Quang Ham road, the section from Binh Thanh district to the cultural park, also reached an important milestone with phase 1 officially opening to traffic on the afternoon of January 26th. The total length of the road is 2,455 m, with a width of 32 m, and an investment of over 381 billion VND.
Phase 1 includes two completed and paved sections: the 520-meter section from Luong Ngoc Quyen Street to Nguyen Viet Xuan Primary School and the 295-meter section from An Nhon Cultural Center to Nguyen Van Luong Street.
The 1,640-meter section from Nguyen Viet Xuan Primary School to An Nhon Cultural Center has been completed on the right side of the road, but due to the incomplete undergrounding and relocation of power poles (expected by April 30, 2025), the power poles remain between the existing road and the widened road. To ensure safety, the power poles have been fenced off, painted with warning signs, and fitted with flashing lights, and a temporary traffic management plan has been established.
Residents living near the projects expressed their excitement that the constructions not only reduce traffic congestion but also ensure safety, especially at night or during heavy rain.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, 58 years old, who lives near the Ba Hom bridge, shared: "For more than a decade, the old bridge was congested during rush hour, with vehicles crammed together to the point of suffocation. Now that there's a new, spacious, and airy bridge like this, the people are very happy! This is truly a great Tet holiday for us."
Both projects, funded by the city budget, not only improve traffic but also contribute to the series of events celebrating the city during the Lunar New Year.
Road connecting to the airport is open to traffic.
According to the Head of the Transportation Department, many key transportation projects in the city have been put into operation (partially or fully) to serve the travel needs of people during the Lunar New Year holiday in 2025.
Specifically, the Tran Quoc Hoan connecting road project in Tan Binh district – the gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport – was officially opened to traffic on January 23rd. The opened section runs from the Phan Thuc Duyet underpass to Hoang Hoa Tham road, improving traffic connectivity in the area.
The project plays a crucial role in supporting the operation of Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat Airport, while also contributing to reducing traffic congestion in the area and surrounding regions.
