Developments in the widespread heavy rainfall in Ho Chi Minh City and Southern Vietnam.

Many localities in Southern Vietnam experienced widespread rain over the past 24 hours, with some areas recording very heavy rainfall. According to monitoring data from 7:00 AM on May 31st to 7:00 AM on June 1st, the highest rainfall was recorded in O Lam ( An Giang ) with 127.6 mm, followed by Thuan Hoa (Lam Dong) with 107.5 mm, Long My (Can Tho) with 95.8 mm, and Tan Hoi Trung (Dong Thap) with 64.6 mm.

Forecasts indicate that from 1 PM on June 1st to 1 PM on June 3rd, the Southern region will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms over a wide area. Total rainfall is expected to range from 70-150 mm, with some areas potentially exceeding 150 mm.

After this period, the rain tends to gradually decrease. Between 13:00 on June 3rd and 13:00 on June 4th, the total rainfall was generally between 20-50mm, with some areas receiving over 50mm.

From the 3rd to the 6th, the rain gradually decreased, with total rainfall generally ranging from 20-40 mm, and exceeding 50 mm in some areas.

The meteorological agency warns that prolonged heavy rain could cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas, industrial zones, as well as areas along rivers and canals in Southern Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City.

People need to be wary of dangerous weather phenomena that accompany thunderstorms, such as tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
