Rice prices edge up

The current rice price in Ham Thuan Bac area has changed significantly compared to last month. Specifically, the rice price last month was only at 5,800 - 6,000 VND/kg, but now it has increased from 6,200 VND to 6,400 VND/kg, depending on the variety and color of the rice.

Ms. Tran Thi Bong (Ham Phu commune) shared: This rice crop has brought quite good yield, selling price is 6,200 VND/kg. The yield is good, the price of rice has increased, which is favorable for rice growers after months of hard work. However, my daughter's rice field has stem borers, due to lack of care, the yield is not as expected. In addition, those who sow a little earlier will harvest rice early. And will have to sell rice at a slightly lower price than those who harvest at the present time.

Similarly, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuan Hoa Commune - Le Duc Duan said that the average selling price of rice is currently 6,300 VND/kg. People mainly grow OM18 and ML48 rice varieties. These are popular rice varieties with stable yields in the locality.

According to the People's Committee of Thuan Hoa commune, for the winter-spring crop, the rice planting area in the entire Thuan Hoa commune is 487.8 hectares, exceeding the plan by 420 hectares. Up to now, people have harvested 205 hectares of the winter-spring rice crop out of the total planting area of ​​487.8 hectares, reaching a rate of 42%.

Straw prices fell slightly

After harvesting rice, fields often produce a large amount of straw, a by-product of the crop. Straw can be used to provide additional income for farmers besides selling rice. Straw is used for many different purposes, such as mulching dragon fruit and other crops, growing mushrooms, or feeding livestock such as buffalo and cows. This not only helps reduce waste but also creates economic benefits for farmers.

Regarding prices, according to some farmers, the current price of rolled straw ranges from 15,000 - 16,000 VND/roll, lower than the previous price of about 20,000 VND/roll. This price decrease can be due to many factors such as supply and demand or changes in usage needs. However, there are times when the price of rolled straw still exceeds 20,000 VND/roll. Although the price of rolled straw has decreased compared to before, it is still a significant source of income for farmers after the rice harvest season.

Mr. Thong Thanh Lan (Ham Phu commune) said: The amount of straw rolls collected depends on the density of rice plants in the field, on average each hectare will collect about 200 - 250 straw rolls. With the current price of straw, each hectare can bring in more than 3.2 - 3.8 million VND from this source of income, helping to partially offset production costs.

After harvesting, the straw is rolled into bundles and quickly purchased and transported to localities for other uses. Thanks to that, straw has become a widely purchased and used commodity by people.
