Dozens of buffaloes and cows are infected with foot-and-mouth disease.

Dozens of buffaloes and cows belonging to 33 households in Dak Glei district ( Kon Tum province) have been confirmed to be infected with foot-and-mouth disease.

On the morning of February 6th, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Glei district announced that it is implementing measures to prevent an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the area.

Currently, this locality has recorded 73 head of livestock (63 cows and 10 buffaloes) belonging to 33 households in Dak Nhoong and Xop communes infected with foot-and-mouth disease, exhibiting symptoms such as abnormal movement, fatigue, drooling, and loss of appetite.

In Dak Glei district, dozens of buffaloes and cows were found to be infected with foot-and-mouth disease.

A few days ago, many households in Dak Nhoong commune (Dak Glei district) discovered that their buffalo and cattle herds were showing symptoms of loss of appetite and abnormal behavior.

Mr. A Nhai (Dak Nhoong village, Dak Nhoong commune) said that after noticing unusual symptoms in his buffaloes and cows, he reported the condition of his herd to the authorities. Upon inspection, the authorities determined that the buffaloes and cows in Dak Nhoong commune were suffering from foot-and-mouth disease.

"Currently, I and the villagers are taking preventive measures to stop the outbreak," said Mr. A Nhai.

Authorities are implementing disease prevention measures for livestock.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Glei District, in 2024, some livestock in the area were not vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease. The reason is that during the vaccination process, some pregnant animals roaming freely in the forest could not be captured. Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Glei District is closely monitoring the outbreak to guide households in preventing and controlling the spread of the disease.

Locals are building shelters to isolate their buffalo and cattle herds in order to control the spread of the disease.

The People's Committee of Dak Glei district directed the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to supply 100 liters of chemicals, 1,000 kg of lime powder, and 85 sets of protective clothing and masks for disinfection of livestock pens and the environment in the outbreak area and adjacent villages; and to guide people on managing, isolating, handling, caring for, and treating sick livestock.

The People's Committee of Dak Glei district also directed specialized agencies to coordinate with the People's Committees of Dak Nhoong and Xop communes to strengthen information dissemination and guidance on measures to prevent and control foot-and-mouth disease... for local people.
